I bought it specifically to practice for a gig when i went on vacation. Super compact, and sounds great, especially with an in ear pocket amp. Didn’t have to wake up the house. But it has been my go to bass more than any other when I need to learn a new song. I hang it on a wall hook by the bed and can practice as long or short as i need, as it’s quite comfortable to play. Then it stores easily outta the way. I even used it for an acoustic show and it sounded great. Best value for my usage I’ve ever had.

I've owned 2 of these and have another on the way - but that's a whole 'nother story. For me, the bottom line is weight. Mine have ranged from under 3 1/2 pounds to just over 4 pounds, so those with back, shoulder, neck or other physical issues will find this bass to be among the lightest available. If weight is an important factor to you, this is the bass to try.Yes, it looks like a paddle made of popsicle sticks, and the tuner quality isn't great - they work, but expect slipping over time. The 30" scale is easy enough to find strings for, and I personally really like playing 30" scale basses, which is a longer scale than an Ibanez Mikro or a Squier Mini Precision. It plays just like a regular electric bass because, despite its quirky looks, it is one.Possibly to save weight and allow the bass to be as small as possible, instead of using a magnetic pickup, this uses a piezo. And there are no controls to adjust volume or tone, but you can always adjust your amp tone and volume; I don't use mine via headphones, but I'd recommend a headphone amp with it so you can control volume/tone or a headphone with inline volume. I've played mine through a variety of amps. The neck is a hair wider than I prefer - I like a jazz neck with a 1.5" nut or a tiny bit narrower while this bass has a P bass sized nut at 1.75 inches. It's not a particularly wide or particularly slim neck, overall.I notice someone here said they couldn't reach customer support in 2022. I'm guessing that's because of the pandemic - I've contacted Traveler many times without any problems including product specs questions, and once a technical issue they helped me sort out. While at $400, this isn't the cheapest bass, the others I've found this light tend to cost upward of $800, so I was happy when I first ran across one of these at a local Guitar Center years ago. Regarding the possible loose jack, just screw it in tightly before playing. I've run across this on many lower priced basses. If you need the lightest possible electric bass or you need a small travel bass but don't want to short a scale and don't want to break the bank, the Traveler Guitar Ultra-light Bass is the answer. When it comes to rating this I'd consider it a 4 for value, based on it being the only game in town, a 3 1/2 each for build quality, hardware and sound quality, I'd add half a point because it comes with a good quality gigbag and the removable leg rest. Let's call it a 4.

I used to travel with a regular sized bass, but it finally got cracked from putting it in the overhead compartments on the airplanes. The space is very compact and perfect for practicing. It’s a little expensive, but worth saving more expensive instruments from damage. I find it a little hard to hold, but it works with my Travel headphone amp and gives me no excuse not to practice when I’m on the road!

I really wanted this bass guitar to work, because I travel a lot and want to practice on the road. Unfortunately, there is something slightly out of spec with the jack. It works with some patch cords and not others. Unfortunately it doesn't work with my Mustang Micro.I contacted their tech support online. They say they usually respond within two business days. It has now been a week with no response. Very disappointing.

Pros:-Works great with pocket amps-Very conveniently sized to take and play anywhere-Closed-in design so you don't have to worry about smacking your tuning keys into anything-Sounds great right out of the box-Good quality (guitar and travel bag)Cons:-the single pickup for the guitar is really sensitive (easy fix: tone down your treble and mid levels on your amp)-didn't come with a guitar strapAll in all, I received the bass three days previous to writing this review and it has been perfect. Whether you're new to the instrument or a seasoned musician, this bass is a blast to play with.

I took a chance on this guitar for practice on my business trips. With a Vox mini-amp, I found the piezo pickup too bright, picking up a lot of string noise and having to turn the tone all the way down to zero on the amp for my ears. Changing the round wound strings to Thomastik-Infeld JF344 Long Scale Flat Wound strings made a significant difference in reducing string noise, as well as more flexibility with the tone control on the amp. I am able to get an acceptable bright tone at 5, with room to turn it down for an even softer sound. Intonation was a little sharp at first, but after more playing time, it seems to have settled in to near perfect. It also developed more consistency in holding the tuning from day to day.The weight balance was a little tricky at first, but I managed to find the sweet spot for seated play with no neck dive in the traditional playing position. At this size, I find that it travels well in the overhead compartments on commercial airlines, fitting in the space above the carry luggage on a full flight with an Airbus A320. The guitar bag does it’s job for carrying around the airport, with the accessory pouch also holding a set of earbuds, the Vox mini-amp, and a small bluetooth receiver for playing along with music from my phone. On the last leg of a trip, the output stopped working. I noticed that the output jack was loose and rotated in place. Upon arriving at home and removing the access panel to the jack, one of the wire leads to the piezo appeared to have broken off the lead to the jack. A simple re-soldering fixed the problem, along with a little tightening of the nut with a pair of needle nose pliers.Overall, I think it’s great for air travel when you want to travel as light as possible and still keep practicing.

Just picking the base up was enough to cause it to make a horrible hum no way to play

Played plenty of other string and band instruments, figured I’d give this a try. Seems pretty sturdy, definitely a good travel size instrument with detachable rest. Plays nice, sound is clear. Doing a lot of traveling this next year, so we’ll see how well it handles the wear and tear.
