Not Tuff Stuff, not as seen in the pics, just a cheap knock off that failed within a week

I purchased this last Fall for my 67 Corvette. I had a number of things that I have been working on with this car over the winter, and finally got the regulator installed when I got the car back on the road this summer. Regulator has failed after 6 weeks of use, but well outside of the return/warranty window. I can't recommend this product, and attempting to contact the supplier has been fruitless.

This is my second purchase of this regulator for a classic Buick. Worked great and the sellers service was excellent. I would buy again!

When I first plugged this in to my '65 Impala I got a sudden 2 amp battery drain. I returned it (sorry Tuff Stuff - my bad) for another one just like it. The second one had the same drain and I'd seen this same complaint on other solid state VR model pages. Since receiving 2 bad voltage regulators would be rare I took the alternator into a local auto electric store for testing. It tested clean at first until I remembered that the drain only existed when the VR was plugged in to the alternator. So I went back and asked that the alternator and VR be tested together. That's when they discovered the blown diodes in the alternator. I'd had intermittent problems with the system before with my old mechanical VR, but the problem became more obvious with the new solid state VR. Now with the new VR and new alternator the electrical system is solid as a rock. It's actually a pretty cheap fix when you consider all that it does.
