In 1489 the greatest polymath the world has ever known sketched a design for an “aerial screw" or helical rotor. The world would have to wait until the early 20th Century before the first machines capable of lifting off the ground were invented, paving the way to today's helicopters—aircraft capable of vertical take-off and landing, hovering in the air, and forward, backward, and lateral flight.

With 167 parts this is an easy model to build, but exceptional Ugears design means this DIY toy chopper still has that "Wow!" factor.To build your model just punch the pieces out of the art-quality composite wood boards and snap them together following the included illustrated instructions. Be sure to sand and lubricate all moving parts with the included piece of sandpaper and wax, and "develop" moving parts with multiple runs before final assembly, for optimal Mini Helicopter function.

OPEN DESIGN
The open design lets you really see all aspects of the DIY helicopter model. This 3D puzzle whirlybird is loaded with realistic details including a turning rotor mast and main rotor, turning tail rotor, twin seater cockpit with cyclic stick controls, doors that open, adjustable searchlight in front, retractable rear wheels, landing skids and a helipad on which to rest your model.
MECHANICAL MOVING MODEL
To set your Ugears Mini Helicopter in motion set the Start/Stop switch to the "Stop" position, give several twists to the silent ratchet key to wind the rubber band motor, put the rear wheels down, set the model on a flat surface, then gently hold the model as you flip the switch to "Start," release and watch as your 3D puzzle helicopter runs ahead for about 1.5 m.

Very fragile and extremely tight fits. Several spots broke while assembly. I don’t feel that any amount of sanding and wax will prevent this from happening. Too much sanding will often result in a loose fit allowing for gears to not align correctly thus making the automation to not occur. I have purchased 4 models and was gifted 1. Total of 5 models and not one functions as intended. Well thought out design and laser cut neat. The helicopter and drone gave me the most misfits and breakage. Not going to purchase anymore. Entertaining, challenging and fun. I just wish the form, fit and function would have all matched up. Pictorial instructions not often as clear as some worded directions would have been.

Right from the start, I was impressed with the Packaging and the Excellent Instruction Booklet, that completely explained everything in detail ! My eight year old grandson, is very likely going to be a future 3rd generation Engineer, who has impressed me with his ability, to build other construction sets, with relative ease ! This kit will certainly challenge him in every way, related to design, building and most importantly, following intricate instructions, to carefully "shape" critical moving parts, for efficient and proper operation ! As a former A&P Technician (I recently turned 70), I can appreciate the level of detail and complex mechanical workings in this kit, that relates to helicopters in general ! I was so impressed with UGEARS Mini Helicopter, I bought one for myself, to prepare for the ultimate enjoyment of watching my grandson build his !

Have. Built a number of Ugears kits and this one was fun and fairly easy to build. Make sure to WAX AND SAND where instructed. Model running was iffy at start, but after many many tries the wax worked into the gears and now runs great.

I enjoyed building this small heli. The rubber bands arent really strong enough to make it roll good but thats fine, i did not build it to "play" with.

Bought it as a gift for someone who loves planes, and is really hard to buy for. I just received an email from him and this is what he wrote:"The wooden plane model is the most unique kit I’ve ever worked with. The engineering is amazing.
