Got this to finish a single speed dirt jumper-ish mountain bike build. I tried to size the chain to fit, unfortunately I didn't have the magic chainring and sprocket the perfect size, so that's why I needed this tensioner. It installs easily in place of the derailleur on the derailleur bracket (you kept that right??), takes a bit of hand strength to get the chain tensioned right. It has held up to a few neighborhood cruises now. Did I mention it looks really nice too? The red anodizing is well done.

I installed this on my mountain bike that doesn't have adjustable dropouts, so this made it much easier to tension the chain after converting to single speed.This chain tensioner seems to be milled from aluminum, at least it has the marks from the CNC machine tooling, which makes me think it's a nice, high quality piece. It's also nicely anodized, I chose the black one but it also comes in some nice colors.I would definitely recommend this chain tensioner to anyone looking to convert their derailleur equipped bike to a single speed and make sure the chain it aligned and tensioned correctly, this is a high quality solution!

This could be a nice solution if you have a single speed with a freewheel and a derailleur hanger. It weighs 138 g, which is less than most rear derailleurs, so there is a weight savings. I like that it comes in several colors, and I really like that it allows for chain line adjustment. It doesn’t come with instructions, but installation is fairly easy. I swapped out my chain for one with 2 extra links to allow for travel through the mechanism. However, it is not compatible with fixed gear bikes because the chain will go slack when you pedal in reverse if you don’t have a freewheel.

Purchased for a single speed conversion. It was easy to install and get adjusted. After an eleven mile trail ride it held up very well and did not need any adjustment.

I’m converting an old Cadex mtb to a single speed gravel grinder so obviously I need something to keep the chain tensioned. This fit the bill perfectly.It’s well made, smooth and feels high quality. It was easy to set up (basically just like a derailleur.)The bonus? It looks sweet on my old mtb. Now I just gotta find some old brake levers and decide on flat vs drop bar. Almost there!
