This pair with lithium ion batteries is junk. They will not turn on, they do not charge. Tried two units, both suffer the same problem. The lithium ion batteries a junk. Don't buy.

This is supposed to work for cables buried up to 0.8m, I have an automower cable buried less than 0.1m, approx 0.04m. In some areas it is very difficult to pick up the signal to the point where it's not existent, this lead us to pulling up the cable in a couple areas and finding no breaks and also pulling it up in another area causing a break which was not already there. I haven't been able to find the actual break in my cable using this. Waste of money.

This is the second similar product I have tried in recent memory, and the first that hits the mark. The build quality is nice. The transmitter and receiver hold their respective batteries in securely. There is a headphone jack so you can wear the included ear buds or any headphones of your choosing if you want to avoid disturbing others with the emergency-like siren that it transmits. The signal is very strong, but can be regulated both on the transmitter and the receiver. The receiver even has an external antenna in the form of something like looks kind of like a plumb bob, so you don't have to bend over while tracing buried wire, like an invisible dog fence or something. The carrying case fits it perfectly. It checks all the boxes. The only thing this lacks that the other one had is multiple sounds. There is no need for multiple sounds. Oh, this also has a flashlight built into it. I suppose that could be somewhat handy, but at least it doesn't hurt to have an extra flashlight in a tool, even if you won't use it. Overall, I'm glad I got this.

I had a break in my invisible fence wire, it runs over 1500 feet, I really didn’t want to go digging. With this device I was able to find the break in less than a half hour. I couldn’t ask for more.

They might work for you but for me they didn't... it was very hard to differenciate when there was a connection or not as the noise kept fading away as you walked the line.

In terms of strict functionality this device works. It even works to an extent on powered romex despite the manual warning not to use it in this manner. This can be useful if you have a bundle of wires near each other that split directions and you want to find which one in the bundle goes to which location. However, this device is very cheap feeling and not remotely durable. One fall onto concrete and it'll probably shatter. The sound it emits is also inconsistent and could be louder. Even with the included ear buds I found myself having trouble getting the audio to come through in a consistent manner. Overall this is good as an aid, especially at the price, but a higher quality tool would probably give a better experience.

We have invisible fence all around the perimeter of our three acre property. You can imagine the frustration when on rare occasions there is a fault someone in the underground wire! In the past it has taking me days to locate and fix the problem. Although we've had not problems recently I ordered this "just in case"! It's been freezing outside, but I took a few minutes to see if I could get a reading from this tracer, and low and behold as soon as I set it up according to the directions, it took about 5 seconds for me to pick up a clear signal from our wire which is buried about 10 inches below the ground. As others have pointed out there are other uses for this wire tracer sop it may come in handy around the house as well. It's built pretty well and works great. I think it's a solid value.Update 4/28/24: That "just in case" happened yesterday. I just used this line tracer to find the break in the fence in literally about two minutes. Took my another couple minutes or so to dig down a few inches, find the break, fix it and bury the wire again. FANTASTIC PRODUCT!

Not a heavy duty device, but works well, found broken main supply wire feeding out building with in 15 min
