It's almost impossible to operate the switch, and totally impossible to operate it smoothly so as to not move the parts you're trying to clamp.

I have very similar welding magnets, but the on/off switch makes these my favorites for sure.

What's really nice about these welding magnets is that when you turn them OFF, most of the accumulated grinding dust and other ferrous swarf just falls off into the trashcan. I wish I'd discovered them years ago! A little expensive, but easily worth twice what the non-switchable magnets go for. Plus they seem to be pretty accurately made, at least in the 90-degree orientation.

Not the strongest magnets in the world but strong enough to hold most stuff in alignment while you tack. If what you're setting up is too heavy for these magnets you might want to think of changing your setup, or get some regular versions from your local welding shop or maybe Home Depot. The ability to turn them off and on is well worth the lower magnet pull.
