I think this item would be helpful to deter kids and others with a passing interest in changing the thermostat setting; I didn't get it to prevent break-ins, though. We have a double light switch panel in an area that is a bit inconvenient in that it's wired oddly. If the wrong switch is thrown (part of a three-way circuit) it cuts of main power in the living room, including wall sockets! So, this was purchased to put over that switch panel. Circumstances prevent us from re-wiring and we don't really need to use this panel. The clear plastic cover is perfectly sized for this switch panel and comes with a lock and plastic key. Again, I don't think this will keep a determined person from getting in to whatever the box encloses, but sometimes "looks" will do the job anyway.This is the usual type of install... so use the appropriate wall anchors or safe attachments, depending on your substrate. We have thick drywall and lots of practice with plastic wall anchors and screw mounts. YMMV.
