Great lantern! I would avoid standard batteries with this lantern since so many regular alkaline batteries have a tendency to leak. It works well with Panasonic AA Eneloop rechargeable batteries and Panaonic AA to D cell adapters. Rechargeable batteries are much less likely to leak versus alkaline. Even if you run into a leaky alkaline battery the terminals are easy to clean up with a Q-tip and a little vinegar to neutralize the base alkaline discharge followed up with some rubbing alcohol. A handy little lantern that cranks out a lot of light when you need it. With a little bit of modification, this is a buy it for life battery powered lantern.

Yeah I know it might seem a little pricey for a lantern, but this is the lantern you need. Multiple brightness and warmth settings to cover all situations, from blinding white light for a nighttime tire change to a dim yellow flicker for a campsite. Battery life is stellar. Just buy it.

Couldn't be happier. Had to make some marks on the battery lid to help line it up. Handle Lid on one was unglued, fixed with a few drops of glue.

This replaced our old Coleman gas lantern and we love this thing. The bright setting is perfect for making dinner at camp in the dark. There are two dimmer settings that are useful for background lighting. It seems indestructible. Batteries last long. This is perfect for us.

I have had a lot of Lanterns, flashlight, etc. However as an outdoorsman survivalist This is the best one i've had Very durable very bright batteries last Multiple different settings. Waterproof. Can hang it. Good for power outages. I would recommend this product to anyone. You never know when the lights might go out.

Personally, in general, I prefer lanterns and other electronic equipments that don't require an external charger. This product requires three D batteries so it adds up to the cost. If you want them to be rechargeable, it's more expensive and you need to buy a charger so it adds up to the cost again. That charger takes much more space and is more complicated than simply using a lantern that recharges using a USB cable.

Ordered two of these lanterns recently, primarily to use indoors if we lose our power. (Coincidentally, we lost our power the day I ordered them and they arrived the day after it was restored.) I'm impressed by how much light they give off in the brightest setting (there are four in total); you can light a huge room with just one. Best part is they only take 3 D cell batteries to operate. Would be great for camping as well as they are lighweight and sturdy. A very good buy.

These are great for power outages. The long battery life makes them nice to place around the house and use for extended periods. I have newer style, rechargeable lanterns that I use when I need a brighter light but I use these when I need less light but for longer periods.

I did have a bit of trouble inserting the batteries, just awkward to do the base up. Once in and lit, it was brilliant.
