Diameter was not true to allow 8mm id bearing to slide across entire rod. Had to chuck up in a lathe to correct. Poor cut ends, bad quality control. Get what you pay for.

It had a precision ground finish and a bright metallic appearance although not quite a mirror finish (slightly matte, not polished but very nice). Much brighter finish than ordinary hot rolled steel rod, although I am not 100% convinced it is chrome plated. It might just be a very high grade cold rolled steel drill rod. That said, it seems to match well when placed alongside known chrome rods so maybe it is chrome plated after all. Would buy again if I had the need.

The shafts were straight, I could grind a notch to screw tight the collars and the motor shaft.

The 8mm was held so tightly you could slide a bearing along it. Very impressive!
