This primer works great and provided the proper base for the veneziano finish on my walls.

The primer did not cover as expected. I was using over new wallboard and existing painted wallboard. I ended up having to use regular white primer to get the consistent base color needed for the mineral paint. This was more expensive, so I feel it was wasted money. Live and learn.

This is a great product that yields stunning results, but be warned, there is a definite learning curve with it and it’s very unforgiving to use even though I have a bit of painting experience. I did my whole house with this, walls and ceilings and I learned a ton about applying it. So I’m going to leave some tips for success that I wish I had had!First off, I applied this over bare drywall, which is possible, but I would not recommend it. I used the recommended roller size, and on the spots that there was mud like corners and nail holes, it would pull the mud off the walls no matter the technique used. I did find a way to minimize it, but it would have been so much easier and less headaches to just use a drywall primer first.Second, depending on what texture you want, you have to roll it on and then let it dry for a few minutes and go over it again to get a smaller more ‘sandstone’ like texture that I wanted. This is a very tedious process, especially because of the previous tip I mentioned. If it gets tacky and you roll over it too late, it will pull chunks off the walls.Third, it drys VERY fast. Like it will set up in 5-10 minutes and you won’t be able to change it after it sets. I had a spot I messed up and thought I’d just wait for it to dry and go over it again to erase it. Nope. No matter how many times I went over it, the bad spot just got more and more visible. You have to work quick and keep a ‘wet edge’ in order to keep hard lines from forming.Fourth, rolling gives a great texture, but cutting in corners and around window trim and baseboards is nearly impossible. Even with the smallest mini roller, I wasn’t able to keep the same texture in the corners. I tried sponges and different techniques with a brush to hide the smoothness and was only moderately successful.Remember the lime wash paint is so thin, that it will not cover any imperfections and it will highlight whatever is underneath, so take the time with proper prep. I used Atelier Lime Paint, and even after all the hassle and work, I would have done it all over again. The soft texture and cool stone feeling has my home feeling like a Moroccan villa and it’s so unique and comfy. You really need the mineral primer to make the lime paint shine to its fullest, and you won’t regret it (even though you may pull out your hair in the process)!
