My son had a pair the school gave him for his bass drum and it had a screw holding the head on the stick. We purchased this for him to use instead and they work perfectly. It was just what he need for bass 1 drum.

My 10 year old needed these because he plays the bass in a marching band. He had the large mallets but he needed the small mallets instead. He feels very happy about having the correct size.

I felt I had to write a review as a counter-point to the one negative review. These are MB1H mallets, as the picture shows. The description above doesn't mention the size and maybe the other reviewer thought they were going to get something else. These are the mallets our high school uses. They take a lot of abuse and will eventually crack, that's the nature of marching band (they sometimes play rim-shots on the metal part of the rim). My son uses these and he marches bass 1 in a field band. These are not concert bass drum mallets.

My son plays bass drum and it was suggested that we have an extra set of mallets in case one of the school's broke. Great idea because they were going a little nuts at a basketball game the other day and one of the cheap school mallets broke in two and went flying across the gym! These feel so much more solid than that one and my son says they feel great.

I've been in the marching percussion world since 1999. I have used a number of different mallets over the years. These are by far the best mallets on the market. Since I've been teaching these are the only mallets I will have my students use. The weight is perfect. The length is great. As with all mallets its best to keep them protected and away from moisture. Moisture will cause the felt heads to balloon and warp.I used these mallets on 18" and 20" bass drums
