Most people, myself included, put a UV filter on an expensive camera lens for one main reason: to create a physical barrier protecting the front element. So it may sound funny, but such a filter should not make much of a difference in your photos. What you don’t want is for it to cause a shift in colors, create any blurry or less sharp areas, or produce odd reflections (ghosting). Other concerns are mostly mechanical: whether the filter screws on and off smoothly, if there is any looseness or rattle, and the general build quality.I used this filter to shoot test images, and also took equivalent images without a filter (I shot them hand held, so there are minor differences in the angle and focus point). The photo I have attached shows the shot without a filter on the left, and with the Viltrox on the right. I did not detect any negative effects from using the filter. The color is decidedly neutral, and the affect on lens performance invisible in real world images. For further testing I also compared it to a different Chinese filter I have on hand, from which I have had good results (and which, at about thirty dollars, was much cheaper). 1) I found the screw threads on the Viltrox filter to be smoother to operate, and 2) I thought the other filter had ever so slightly less pure color rendition compared to the Viltrox. So the Viltrox passed all my real world comparisons with flying colors. It is not cheap at about ninety dollars, but it is quite a bit cheaper than top name brand pro grade Japanese and European filters—which in this large size often run one hundred twenty to two hundred dollars. This filter compares to such high grade glass very well. Now that I have completed my testing, the Viltrox will be staying on my lens.

VILTROX 72mm MC UV Protection Filter 18 Multi-Layer Coatings UHD Camera Lens UV FilterI found the VILTROX lens/UV filter to do exactly what was offered: Provide UV filtering to enhance "blues" within my pics and portraits in a 72 mm size. Today's digital cameras are now capable of decent blue rendering, and preventing the slight haze or washout from excessive UV enhances my images of ocean, lakes, sky, etc. very nicely and noticeably. Even an amateur+ photog like me is grateful to have this, and I can't imagine a pro living without it.For $60 or so, this pays for itself in excellence of result. An STG Synergies BTN Enterprises Review!

This is a review of the Viltrox Pro MC UV Filter, in 62mm, with an ASIN of B0CX1VX2DZ.Short version (TL;DR) - Negatives: Price. Positives: Well made. Doesn’t create weird flares.Long version …Sometimes not doing anything is the right answer. This is a case of that. It’s simple, seems very sturdy, doesn’t get in the way, and doesn’t have a negative impact on your shot. For a genre of filter that’s generally accepted as being, essentially, a lens protector, what more do you really want?Negatives:* Price - frankly, the only drawback I see for this filter is that it sits pretty high in the price spectrum among similar goods. That said, there’s a chance it belongs to be there.Positives:* Well Made - in many regards, this seems well made. It’s very solid feeling, has quite obviously good machining (I rather like the grip ridges on the rim.), a nice finish, and it really is about as thin as it could possibly be while still having enough room for the glass and the requisite external threading for further filters or your lens cap.* Doesn’t Create Weird Flares - I’m pointing this out rather explicitly as has a tendency to create strange, green spectres when in flaring conditions. I repeatedly tried to induce that with this (related shot included), and got nothing. Nothing, in that circumstance, is a good thing. In summary, this does just what it’s supposed to do. Yes, it’s on the expensive side … but it seems like it may be able to justify that. I’m a bit torn about how to rate it, but I’m going with 4 stars just because I’ve not worked with that many UV filters yet, and may well be lacking adequate perspective on the price versus performance question. Still, in my exercising it so far, it’s been great.

Especially when going on location shoots, I like having a UV filter on the lens. The extra piece of mind that your lens has an extra layer protecting the front element is invaluable. The main thing to watch out for with them is a decrease in image quality or sharpness, unwanted haze or flares, and other subtle optical effects. Luckily, this one doesn't produce any of those issues to any noticeable extent.

The Viltrox line of UV protection filters for camera lenses seems rather pricey, but the one I received was very well made and quite good looking. There are no visible imperfections in it, and the manufacturer claims it has "18 Multi-Layer Coatings" and is both hydrophobic and scratch resistant. It also comes nicely packaged, with an "instruction" booklet in six languages (but French is not included). The lens has a matte-black frame (to avoid unwanted reflections), which is very thin (to reduce the chances of vignetting with very wide-angle lenses). I've attached it to my Nikkor 70-300mm zoom lens, and it's a perfect fit (as expected).Opinions vary on how advantageous it is (or isn't...) to have a UV filter on a camera lens, but it's undeniable that it will add a level of protection for the front element of your lens--as well as for its filter mounting threads--from physical damage caused by moderate accidental blows. It is good insurance, and has saved many photographers' lenses from expensive repairs (or destruction)!
