Diamondback 3-9x40 BDC (MOA) Riflescope (DBK-01-BDC)

This classic go-to hunting scope is off the charts when it comes to image quality, build quality and overall feel of the turrets and the fast-focus eyepiece. If you're in the market for a high-quality riflescope, look no further than the Diamondback - a quality riflescope that offers a variety of configurations.

Dead-Hold BDC MOA Reticle

  • Customized dot design helps eliminate guesswork on holdover and windage corrections. Good for hunting/shooting at varying ranges where estimating holdover is a concern.
  • Second focal plane (SFP) reticles are located near the scope’s eyepiece behind the image erecting and magnifying lenses. This style of reticle does not visually change in size when you change the magnification. The advantage of an SFP reticle is that it always maintains the same appearance.

This is my first Vortex scope. I got the 3-9x40 variant with the Dead-Hold BDC reticle for my hunting rifle. I like the fit and finish, and everything feels well-made. The turret adjustments feel decently tactile, and the magnification wheel turns smoothly. I like the wide field of view. I put this on a rifle in 308 Winchester and have had no issue with it. I also like how when you turn up the zoom magnification, you don't lose any eye relief or at least a very minimal amount. It has 3.3 inches of eye relief, which was fine for the recoil of my 308 rifle. The scope clarity is great and bright. There is some chromatic aberration, which I noticed at around 500 yards, but I had no real problem with the optical quality. The biggest issue I have with this scope is how thick the reticle is. I got the Dead-Hold BDC version because I liked the diagram shown for the reticle. But when I got the scope and looked through it, I noticed that the reticle and hash marks were a little thicker than was shown. It's still very usable, but the thickness of this reticle would be good for thick woods and out to the 250-yard range because it is eye-catching; the thickness of the reticle would be better suited for a standard duplex instead of a BDC reticle style, especially because the hash marks clutter the cross-hair, which is a little distracting. I got the 3-9 because it would be good for both close-range and longer or extended-range hunting. I wanted the ability to take precise shots out to 300-400 or even 500 yards if applicable, but when I saw the reticle, I was a little disappointed and a little frustrated. I like what the scope offers, but the 3-9x40 BDC reticle should be a little thinner.I got a Vortex scope because nothing else was as good in this price range, and the Vortex warranty is great. The thickness of the reticle is not that big of an issue, but I wanted to note it. Overall, I am somewhat pleased with this scope.

Attention !

This is my 4th product from Vortex(3 scopes and a monocular) and I really am impressed with this company. This scope is a amazing scope for the money and its actually smaller for a 4-12x40. Compared to a Nikon prostaff its a little more than 2 inches shorter. I was hesitant to put this on my AR-15 with a 16 inch barrel but it really does look good on my gun and with an American Defense mount I can take it off in about 5 seconds and put on my Vortex Spitfire 3x red dot scope that I use for close range shooting under 100 yds. This Diamondback scope is perfect for longer range shooting but isn't as bulky as alot of hunting scopes are. The dead hold BDC is hard to beat. I was looking at getting either a Nikon or Vortex but for the money and for the warranty I had to go with the Vortex, plus I like Votex's BDC reticle compared to Nikons. For the money this scope has just as good of glass and ccrystal clear viewing as a scope for $300 or more and I paid $147 for this one. So I definately recommend this scope.

Wow! This is about as good as you can get for the price. The glass was crystal clear and it barely took any time at all to have it set up. Haven't gotten in zeroed in yet but in terms of construction and quality from it so far it's a 11 out of 10. Solid and study. The turrets have a softer click and a small tactile feedback when adjusting your zero. The magnification adjustment ring is a bit harder to turn but I would rather this than it being easy to accidentally move ( will probably be perfect once this scope is broken in). The focus is a bit difficult to turn but again, I find this very good to avoid accidental turning during use. The eye relief is very good, almost 4 at 4x and around 3.5 - 3.7 on 12x. The fast focus is a very very nice feature when hunting. I have used normal scopes and this one when trying to snap to a target and this would easily be able to get a shot of faster. The quality on this scope from vortex is second to none!! This is one of the very best of not the the very best scope you can get for this price range and I believe will rival the quality of scopes with a larger price tag.

This is the least expensive Vortex scope I have. I paired it with a marlin 60, 22LR for servicing varmints around the farm. Hoping for the fantastic quality I have found in the pST and Viper HS, but not really expecting it, I fearlessly bought it for the reputation and unmatched warranty. I put it through a 10 MOA box test yesterday. This $180 scope performed as well as any other Vortex scope I have, returning back to zero every time. All of the adjustments of the turrets had precise and expected shifts of point of impact. That cannot be said for any of the leupold scopes or Bushnell scopes I have ever had. I still have a remington 700ADL, 6mm with a Leupold 4.5-14 x50 VXIII ($759 scope) that will not go to dead center bull. The 1/4" clicks are sometimes 1/2" and sometimes don't seem to move it all. I have had it for many years and like my old Red Rider BB gun, I just know it is 1/2" high and right. All of the Vortex scopes have machined turrets under the caps. Which means you don't need to use a coin or tool to make the adjustment. They have easy to see and accurate graduations on the turrets so you don't need to count the clicks. And when you turn the 1/4 moa turret 6 clicks, down range the POI shifts 1.5 inches. Thats how a scope should perform. This $180 scope performs as well as its sibling Viper HS and PST. Unbelievable! Very clear glass, solid material, unmatched warranty and the best performance in a scope under $1000. Buy two and turn a friend on to Vortex scopes. I can't say enough good about them

I'm extremely happy with this scope, and the people who support it. I shoot a high power air gun, and chose this scope based on the recommendations of other airgunners. A spring inside vibrates audibly with shots, and I contacted tech support. Not only did they get back to me right away, but they answered every email I sent them. You don't see that a lot these days. The ringing sound isn't very loud, and now that I know it's nothing to worry about it doesn't bother me. (1300 fps Gamo Whisper SS).It's only been a couple weeks, but so far the scope is holding up to springer use just fine. My gun has destroyed three scopes that were supposedly air gun rated, so I will update this review in the future to report how it continues to hold up.Update after using this scope for seven months: Scope has held zero perfectly, and has never had a problem. Looks like I finally found a scope that can stand up to my springer air gun.The AO works flawlessly. BDC reticle is great. All controls are very smooth. Nothing seems to move by itself when shooting (a common problem with spring air guns). The turrets are the easiest to adjust I've ever seen. They take so little force to turn I was worried that they wouldn't would hold zero, but they have. Optics seems crisp and clear. Eye relief is very comfortable--easy to get your eye in the right spot (important with a break barrel where you have to get into position for each shot).I'm not a very experienced shooter, and I'm getting nickel to quarter sized groups at 25 yds from a rest.
