I have an automatic ice maker in my refrigerator and the ice was thin and most hollow. I bought the cleaner and that didn't fix it. So I did some research. I decided to try this part and it did fix the issue. The install was a little difficult. The price is inexpensive.

I was excited to see this available as an alternative to the OEM thermistor which ranges between $55-$75 plus shipping depending on where it is ordered from. This has the same part number markings as the factory one had and is identical in form, fit, and function at half the price. What is it used for? This piece sits in the ice bin and when the ice contacts it, it shuts down ice production. My original failed so the ice maker was overproducing ice as it didn't send the stop signal. Replacement on a Kitchen Aid under counter ice maker is a 30 second job. Pop off the plastic cover just below the control panel, unplug the old one, and remove one screw to uninstall. The holding bracket and screw is reused on the new thermistor and it is plugged into the connector. I took the opportunity for a deep clean while it was off and once the ice maker was back in service and ice reached the full level, the thermistor functioned as intended and signaled to stop producing ice. Highly recommend this as a lower cost alternative to OEM.
