These must be installed 180 degrees. The springs are racheted but if you tighten them enough to close the gate, after opening 2-3 times they make a snapping sound and are sprung and quit working. Spent hours trying to make them work. Don't recommend for heavy gates! I have added an additional spring to the gate and readjusted the bottom one so it appears to be working.

the product is good... no complaints....for installation don't install the locking device until the gate is finished (weight issues will change where it sets)

The hinges do not self close, pins didn't stay in and fell out. Now I cant return it because I tried to get it to work and it is banged up, plus I already mounted the latch.

Heavy duty, solid and have a nice black coating. I built two new gates using a 2x4 frame. They are easy to install and adjust - make sure you have 1/2" clearance on the hinge side and 1" on the latch side. My only issue is the difficulty in adjusting the closing tension. On heavy wooden gates you need more closing force and being able to increase the tension by turning the adjustment wheel was difficult while trying to reinsert the retaining pin. It includes 2 tension adjusting rods and the screws for installation in wood and PVC, which was a nice touch. A big upgrade from previous big box store hardware.
