If you are not at least a beginning wood worker I would suggest purchasing a different product. You have to cut and drill the wood then assemble the metal portion. The wood is not provided so after cutting you must finish it with a food safe finish.

My husband made a very cool looking cheese board and wanted to install a cheese slicer so he ordered this. It was an easy installation, works well and looks nice. He had me order 4 more kits so he could make some more cheese boards with slicers as gifts for family! It's perfect!

This is a very nice kit but I found a few things that made it easier to assemble. I bought 8 of these kits and gave them away as Christmas gifts. Here are the three things that I did to "tweak" the kits.1. Boring the hole for the rod in the board was easy enough as I had a long-enough brad point bit but you need to cut the kerf slightly deeper than the bottom of the hole to make it easier to attach the cutting wire loop. I ended up creating a small chisel from and old screwdriver and chamfering the corners where the kerf met the bore edges. This allowed the loop to be inserted easier and left room beneath the rod for the wire thickness.2. The hole for the screw that holds the handle on and tensions the cutting wire was too small. The screw was very difficult to start and I feared that I might break it while tightening it. I drilled the hole out to .125" diameter and all the way through the rod. This allowed the screw to be inserted full depth and secure the handle without any play.3. The ends of the wires stuck out and caught on the kerf and the plastic handle so I took a smooth-faced pliers and twisted the ends until they layed smoothly against the main wire length.

Love this cheese slicer kit! This is my first "cutting" board build. I made it specifically for a friend who likes to set out a nice spread of appetizers and such which, usually includes cheeses. My board build was initially a bit longer. However while drilling the hole for the long leg of the shaft I came out the bottom of the board. Thankfully the board was still long enough I could cut out my mistake and try again. My drill press is not large enough so I will use a doweling jig or similar next time. The rod did take some tweaking once installed to get the wire to align with the cutting groove in the board. I also found that I had to make the cutting groove deeper than the recommended depth to enable the wire loop to be slipped over the rod. (Perhaps another alignment error on my part, IDK).The wire had a tiny piece of the twist sticking out and nicked the board at the cutting groove. Check the twisted end of the wire to make sure this won't happen on your board. All in all, I am very happy with the kit and how the board turned out. Hope this is the first of many.

Works well and makes a great gift. But a little pricey for what you get.
