Each of the bedding materials that come in the Worm Factory Refill Kit are in the same convenient size packages that originally came with the Worm Factory 360 composter. They can also be used with the Worm Factory Standard composter. When used as instructed this kit contains enough materials for at least 8 composting trays. Bedding materials play an important role in reproduction rates and impact the manageability of the Worm Factory. They are essential for air space and moisture control. Bedding materials should compose at least 50% of the material you add to the feeding trays. The pumice and coconut coir prevent odors from forming in the Worm Factory360 and the Worm Factory Standard by providing carbon, without which the system would sour. They also keep the materials in the tray from packing tightly. This promotes increased air flow and free movement of the worms. Minerals provide grit for the worms and food for the microbes that are working sight unseen in the Worm Factory, helping to breakdown the food for the worms and ultimately providing nutrient rich vermicompost for optimal plant growth.

Works great for my worms and keeps the worm casings from being too compact

I'm so happy I went with this Refill Kit. Just perfect for my needs. I could use as little or as much as I needed to enhance my container. My worms are so happy and breeding, which was my intended goal. Super happy with the materials in this kit. Highly recommend as Starter Material, or Refill Material. Super successful. 5 Stars!

Total rip off as previous reviewers have suggested. I only ordered out of “convenience” instead of sourcing all components. More fool me—my package was missing one of the coir blocks.

Hopefully this will update my earlier, less than vibrant, review.I finally got an email from the vendor this evening. The explanation is that the kit is to balance soil, etc., for an existing 'colony'.While the instructions & ad don't seem to indicate that, I'll take them at their word.Perhaps they can match the instructions, product description and content image. That would help out those who are just starting the process.

Get this package if you want to turn your ho hum bins into a thriving farm. None of these materials are essential to your working worm bins, but they will vastly improve the health of your bins and enhance the quality of your garden soil.Coir and pumice (and your own shredded paper) help aerate and reduce bin moisture, so the material is not sour and attractive to fruit flies and house flies. A less expensive but decent alternative is to use lots of coir and your own paper.Glacial rock dust is grit for the worms to help digest food and it raises the mineral content of plant soil. Your own coffee grounds and crushed egg shells are a cheaper way to provide grit, but they do not pack the mineral punch of the glacial rock dust.Good luck and happy composting! I hope this review was helpful.

According to the Worm Factory 360 (WF360) manual, the amount of coconut coir and pumice that comes with this refill kit is more than enough to last a few seasons! There's everything you need to start up a new WF360 and provide more than enough bedding for all of your trays and then some. I'm planning on using the coconut coir exclusively for bedding and brown matter. I've got a total of 6 trays to fill over the next 6 to 8 months and I can't wait. Even my boys are excited about "raising" worms!

I bought this refill with not much conviction, as in fact, I would like to get rid of my farm and its few survivors; I have described before how the spigot was not turned all the way against the box as shown on the picture, which didn't release the moisture as thought, which in turn lead to the drowning of most of my 2000 worms; Uncle Jim company, who seemed initially interested in knowing about my new purchase, hasn't made any comment following my description of this disastrous experience; personally I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND getting this worm farm for anyone leaving in the States where temperatures could go below 40 F or above 80 F; these wigglers should remain in Europe where more moderate temperatures can exist. Otherwise, you will end up like me with high electric bills in summer time.
