Great and useful tool set. I actually got it to do my dogs nails, instead of having to hold a heavy and awkward dremel. Works out perfect for it!

I've always been impressed with Worx products. I have many of their yard tools, and these crafter tools don't disappoint. I've been a crafter for as long as I can remember. You can't beat the quality of these products. The rotary tool is just as good if not better than any other brands you might know. It's the same with the airbrush. I absolutely recommend these products.

Doing a little welding job on the go and this handy tool was everything! Light, portable, powerful; the grinder, mini sander and blower were great. I busted them out and everyone was impressed by their usefulness and quality. I love the battery/hub setup and the whole kit fits compactly in the bag. Even the mini storage box is a useful quality accessory. I added a blower, it too fits in the bag and works great. Bought the 3-kit on sale, feels like I scored.I need ergonomic lightweight tools. This exceeded my expectations. The textured grip makes it easy to hold without concern of dropping or tense gripping. The cord is not cumbersome, the battery and hub are really portable and easy to connect. The tools themselves are balanced and lightweight. I can use these for most any project i need im sure.

This is a general review of the Maker-X line and this particular set. I am leaving more detailed reviews for the tools on their individual tool listings. The price for the set, about $110 on sale, is a decent price for everything included. Remember that there is normally a "premium" to pay for decent battery-powered tools. Buying the tools and a charger and battery and controller all separately would push the price for everything in this set close to the $200 price range. I am a fan of this line of tools, even with the flaws. Since originally getting this set, I have also purchased the mini blower and rotary cutter and their hand-vac not part of the line.Who might want this line? People with very limited space and a use for a variety of smaller sized tools. Those who travel and do arts and crafts shows/fairs and/or public demos. The Battery - My biggest complaint is this is a set of 3 tools and it comes with 1 battery, so go ahead get at least one more. The performance of the battery is as good as can be expected. The Controller - The power and speed control of this line is pretty good. I like it. I have found the cord to be a good length, long enough for easy use and not too long as to get in the way. The overall quality is not bad. The connector fits snuggly and securely in the tools. I haven't had any issues with it. Though for the price they charge for the controller separately, I think they should all have the belt clip included only on the upgrade version that also has a USB charging port. The Rotary Tool - This tool has been a pleasant surprise. The biggest flaw is the auto-shutdown feature to help protect the motor from burning out. It works great as long as you use a light touch. Let speed and the bits, burs and wheels do the work. It is compatible with Dremel accessories like router attachment and the grinding shield/deflector. It only comes with 1/8" collet. Using this much more than I originally expected. The Wood & Metal Tool (aka Soldering Tool) - Very functional tool. Portable, battery powered soldering iron that works well. This has replaced my nice butane heated iron. The Mini Angle Grinder - Limited usefulness due to auto-shutdown feature that is protection from burning out the motor. Like the Rotary tool, must be used with a light touch. I would be much happier with it if the auto-shutdown feature was a tad less sensitive. Blade guard has very small adjustment range. All in all, for the money this is a great little set of tools. They sell this set without the angle grinder for almost the same price, so you might as well grab the one with the extra tool. I wished they sold a kit with 2 batteries. With a few improvements here and there, I would give it a solid 5 stars.

I grabbed the Makerx rotary tool and soldering iron pack while looking for a replacement rotary tool, and I am writing this about 6 months after my purchase, as I am well aware of how the initial period after a new purchase of a cool tool can induce a short period of fan-boy syndrome, before acknowledging a host of glaringly obvious issues. However, I am glad to say that I am still using the Makerx system daily. So, the best parts.. First is it is incredibly light and thin, which is a bonus compared to some of the other lower-cost rotary tools that are almost unwieldy. The speed is 100% constant as long as you don't overuse the tool and apply too much torque, which is standard with most rotary tools and helps to prevent rapidly broken fingers and wrists, this is a precision tool and not to be used in place of a large craftsmen or Makita Drill or an actual drill press. The biggest thing I love about this is that it is whisper quiet, and I have used it many times at 3:00 AM in my small studio apartment where a normal conversation can keep the neighbors awake. While some other rotary tools do have similar features, such as the WEN cordless rotary tool, which is powered by a 4.2v Lithium Ion Battery, the Makerx is powered by a 20v battery with the same power as any other power-tool interchangeable battery, giving the Makerx Immensely more power, RPM, and battery life.In terms oif the Soldering Iron, this has become my standard daily use soldering iron. I also have 2 TS80 Smart soldering irons and a dedicated soldering station. Prior to this, the $100+ TS80 was my main soldering iron, but the Makerx has since surpassed it. It heats up just as fast, keeps the heat, and cools off very fast, has built in temp display and control on the iron, and it works. I can go through tips fast, but the original tip is still perfect on this Sure, I can't play pacman on it or program a boost temp for when I solder things with higher heat-loss properties, but that's really not needed. I turn it on and solder.. that is it. Both devices give me the performance and power of a standard power tool, but while being very portable. As far as the negatives, and everything has a negative.. I noticed the Rotary tool had a tendency of catching the built in chuck, especially when I pushed it beyond it's torque capability. I don't know if this is a specific issue with my unit, or all of them. However, as a Maker, I prefer doing my own repairs, and the Makerx makes this incredibly easy. They have no screws. You unscrew the top and bottom rings and the rotary tool separates easily into little easily replaceable modules. It is neat just to take a look at it to see the little details that went into the engineering of this. I believe the spring wasn't as strong as it should have been, but I ended up removing the chuck, as it is just as easy to use a any nearby item as the key, and it completely removes the chance of an issue. Other than that, you can't use this without a battery. So, if you only have one battery, when it dies, you aren't using these until it is recharged, which is fairly quick, but having the ability to use wall power is a large annoyance at times. However... I do realize that building the power and battery charger into the power hub would add significant size, mass, and most likely cost. So like all awesome tools, we have to deal with a few annoyances for improvements. As far as the soldering iron goes, I have no negatives to report, other than I wish they included a hot-knife blade, but yes, I did buy one..... and that just demonstrates how useful this is.
