  • .Used to split the hard stone, rock, granite, marble, concrete.
  • Color: as shown in pic, Specifications Diameter 9/16"(14mm),(Use 1/2" hammer bits can be).Size: 14 x 100mm/0.55 x 3.9 inch
  • The concept of these devices is that they split rocks by applying pressure from the inside going out. These wedges are small but can exert an amazing amount of power.
  • High-quality steel, heat treatment process, High hardness, toughness.
  • Attention: Only drill to the depth of the feathers (shims). Any deeper may lead to inconsistent cleaving or difficultly even cleaving the rock. If the holes are too deep the best you can expect is a crooked, uneven break. All feathers and wedges work best when the holes for each are evenly spaced and drilled to the same depth. This will give you the cleanest, most precise break.

How to use:
1 Central wedge + 2 wedges composition,
2. First using quarrying dedicated drill holes, remove residual powder of hole
3. Next upside down the big side of 2 wedges (flat to flat),and put it into hole.
4. Then upside down the small side of central wedge between 2 wedges , and finally using the hammer split stone

Quantities: 7 set
Note:
Before use, please make the necessary protective measures
When the stone is about to split, keep alert.

Seems to be solid and of good quality. I have not tried them to split rocks yet.

I have used an old set of 1/2 feathers and wedges in the past. They have got substantially beat up and bent over the years. These are much sturdier. I liked them so much I immediately ordered a second set. I found that with a 1/2" hole the feathers would not drop in all the way and the wedge would bounce out when struck. Using a 5/8" hole worked out much better. I used them to break off the top of a ledge that was in my driveway. I actually ordered Dexpan to do the job but these worked so well that I sent it back.

I had to bust up and remove some concrete stairs and small pad. These are indestructible! Drill a hole every 8 to 12 inches put these in, hit with hammer and split concrete. Very easy 👌

I had a spot of cement in my backyard that was scalping my mower deck. When I was finished digging it out, it was a foot and a 1/2 by a four foot cylinder of concrete. I checked at the big orange box store, and one set of stone splitting wedges are $23.After purchasing this set, I started with the 1/2" bit and you can get it to work, but the 5/8" bit allows the wedges to drop in right to the shoulder and have about an inch of the center wedge held by the O-ring. I first split the cylinder into four pieces and then the four cylinders into four quarters.A lot of splitting and the wedges worked without any mushrooming of the ends, and the O-ring design is so much easier to use than the old three wedge design.

I have now split my second slab with these wedges. Slab One is about five feet long and 27" tall. Slab Two was over six feel long and about a foot tall. Both were around eight inches thick. I split them because my applications really only need a two - three inch thick slab.On both rocks the results were exactly as expected. If I were to nit-pick: The wedges are not milled very precise nor technically accurate for this application.Out of two sets (14 shims) the thickness varies from shim to shim by as much as an 1/8 inch. For the application of stone splitting the pressure applied by the shim should be equal along the whole length of the shim applying the force equally across the length of the hole drilled. The shims I received nearly all have concave surfaces so as the wedge is forced into the V it really only makes contact at two points per shim not the whole length of the shim. On large rocks where detail is insignificant this is fine. If the rocks were thinner this could lead to blowouts at the pressure points.

While I never split or seen 1st hand splitting rocks before, it works. The hardest part of the job is drilling the holes. With a little trial & error, What worked for me was drill holes (3"-4" OC) with Bosch (HC5020) 5/8" SDS MAX Drill Bits (or Milwaukee) to a depth of 4" (min) using in a DeWalt Combo Hammer Drill using 50-ft 12AWG Ext. Cord w GFI outlet. To cool, lubricate & help clear (and extend service life of) the drill bit, used a garden hose with a little water very slowly trickling into/towards the dill hole. While drilling periodically, pulled to drill bit clear hole/bit & allow new clean water into drill hole. Note: the 5/8" bit has 2 carbide blades in the tip forming an X, while the 9/16" or smaller bits have only a single carbide tip which appears to make them wear out sooner. Also a 5/8" drill allow the wedge & feathers to seat deeper in the hole which appears to put the splitting force deeper within the rock (i.e. more effective). If the hole is less than 4" deep the main wedge appears to hit the bottom of the hole before full feather wedges can take effect. Overall, works well as these plug & feather wedge split well in excess of 2,000 lbs (ton) of rocks & small boulders.

These wedges worked beautifully. Make sure you drill the holes deep enough. I made the mistake of only drilling them about 3in the first time to allow the wedges to fit...didn't work. You need to drill about 5in deep holes to allow for the wedge to be hammered down past the wedges, otherwise the wedge will hit the bottom of the hole and not work properly. Once I figured this out the rock split effortlessly. The steel was strong and did not bend, the bands held up find, remember, your not beating on these, just tapping one at a time. Very important to spread out your hammer taps evenly among the wedges and the boulder will just split. Wonderful product!

I bought this set to pair up with a rotary hammer drill that I'm using to break down 6 foot long 4 foot high boulder sitting right in the middle of my lawn. It's painstaking work, but I've been making steady progress. It's challenging because rather than being above ground, only the top portion of the boulder is visible so rather than remove the whole thing, I've been chipping away at the top of it and will just cover it with about 8" of loam when I'm done. The o-rings are heavy duty, but after hitting them accidentally a few times, they can snap easily so it's a good idea to have extras on hand. I wish the feathers had flanges on them that you could use to make it easier to pull them out, but it's not a deal breaker. The steel feels tempered and is very dense. I haven't had any issues with bending or deformity. They go into the pilot hole, and after as few as 10 taps, the section breaks free - talk about a gratifying sound.
