I am relatively new to the saxophone scene and have been stepping through different opening sizes and reed combinations. I wanted to learn what’s working for me without breaking the bank. The Yamaha series is one that is recommended by many music teachers because they are made very well and are a known commodity. Yamaha includes the smaller 4C opening with their instruments. As I have progressed with my instrument, I have used the Yamahas and will probably graduate to a more advanced/premium mouthpiece. In the meantime, these have served me well with tenor and alto. (As with most mouthpieces, a ligature and cap are not included.)

This 6C Yamaha mouthpiece was suppose to measure .074 inches at the tip of mouthpiece to the tip of the reed. I measured it with an accurate expensive measuring gauge and it is measuring .070 inches at the tip. This is not accurate according to Yamaha specs. I noticed it was made in Indonesia, not Japan, maybe that has something to do with it?? I dont know, but someone dropped the ball here. Is everything changing for the worse??

Bought as upgrade from original generic mouthpiece. Looked at Yamaha because of their quality and reputation. Reviews I read were that Yamaha 4C was an excellent all-around choice for beginning/intermediate players. Several 6C reviewers mentioned starting with a 4C and going to 6C with excellent results. My experience has been the same: easy blowing and control, excellent range from soft to ff, and very close to the tenor sound I want to achieve. A good choice for the next step up.

For a cheap mouthpiece, you can’t beat it.

I won’t comment on sheerness or thickness. I will only say that this is a great mouthpiece. I have only been playing the tenor sax since Feb. 2020. Because of virus, I had only 4 in person lessons so have basically been learning on my own. There are no sax teachers in my immediate area. I get a great tone with this mouthpiece and it is easy blowing. I use it with a 2.25 Legere plastic reed.

This mouthpiece has improved the sound a great deal. It produces a warm rounder sound. I would recommend this mouth piece to any one wanting to improve their sound.

I went from a size 4 to a 6. I struggled a bit with getting enough air through the mouth piece. Now though I am enjoying the mouth piece and the sound and volume are much better than my old mouth piece.

If you want to change your setup inexpensively, then get this mouthpiece. Yamaha delivers on quality and avid description of their products and this one is no exception. Step up from that 4C and get bolder... Plays loud AND, OR soft and quiet at your command with the promise of more sonic possibilities, for real, including decent altissimo. The 6C is also a tad brighter, but retains the mellow undercurrent of the 4C. The light side and dark side of the force all at the same time. Still blows easy, too. Endeavoring saxophonists (like myself) WILL NOT be disappointed.

very good mouthpiece give a softer tone than a metal one. I do advise mouthpiece cushions.. I use them with all mouthpieces that I have. Vandoren mouthpiece cushions are the best.. they keep their stick Cheaper mouthpiece cushions slide off when wet.
