One of the standout features of the Zipp 303 Firecrest is its ABLC (Aerodynamic Boundary Layer Control) Sawtooth dimple design, which extends across the entire surface of the rim. This technology was first developed for Zipp’s premium NSW (Nest Speed Weaponry) wheelsets and is now applied to the Firecrest.
- The Sawtooth dimples are strategically designed to reduce aerodynamic drag, improve stability, and manage airflow more effectively around the rim. By optimizing aerodynamics, the wheelset allows for greater speed with less effort, especially in windy conditions, where side winds can destabilize less aerodynamic wheels
- This dimple pattern also enhances handling in crosswinds, making the wheelset more predictable and easier to control when gusts hit, a key advantage for pro riders and those racing in variable conditions
