Full disclosure, I have never worked with fondant. I’m a polymer clay artist, and so I am using these molds for my clay art. In no way does this review reflect how the molds perform with fondant, because I know nothing about working with it.Pairing polymer clay with these molds isn't ideal. However, among them I have found some favourites that do work wonderfully with the clay because they suit my creative style. For that, these molds get 3 solid stars.I’ll mention here that I don’t bake any of my polymer clay projects in silicone molds, so I can’t attest to the durability of these molds when it comes to placing them in the oven.I love that the price is right for 4 molds at the current cost of $18.99 CAD. These molds are of roses, butterflies, birds, bees, and some clusters of flowers and leaves. On many marketplaces, just one mold alone can cost approximately as much as the total price of these ones. When using these with polymer clay, I'd suggest using only the softest clay on the market. The softest clay I use has a very putty like consistency. Even then there were issues with the resulting form of the clay I removed from a few of the molds. Specifically the butterflies. These molds are so flexible! They can be bent and twisted without tearing or losing their form. And the ideal way to remove clay from them is just by bending and flexing the molds away from the clay. In the case of the butterflies, that wasn't easy. The polymer clay that came out of the butterfly molds had bits and pieces missing because the grooves within the wings are so thin. No matter how many times I tried to bend the silicone so the clay could fully come away from those molds, each butterfly had a flaw because clay remained stuck in places in the wing grooves. However, being an innovative artist, I can use the broken butterflies as unique accents for fantasy fairy gardens. I turned some into interesting ragged moths for a whimsical project.I had great success with removing the polymer clay from the mold with the bees. The clay comes out perfectly. The bees are adorable! Although, the resulting shape of the bee wings after being removed from the mold do look a lot like mouse ears. Each little bee's wings are so forward and prominent on their little heads.I think the bees are by far my favourite of all 4 of the molds. Even though they look like a cross between a mouse and a bee, they will also fit in with my unique fantasy style of art. I can paint them up as fun and unique little creatures. The issue I had with the flowers, birds, and roses, were the narrower parts that I needed to fill with the polymer clay. Especially, the birds’ tails and the stems of the roses. They were so thin and narrow that the clay wasn’t substantial enough to come out of the mold along with what they were attached to. Therefore, most birds and roses I made had no tails or stems. The rose blooms have great depth. When the polymer clay is removed the mold does a great job of defining the edges of the roses, but inner details of petals weren’t very prominent. You could tell they are roses by shape, but they don’t have definition or appeal.Because I try to think outside the box with all of my art projects and use the resulting forms that come out of the molds without a perfectionist filter, I am able to creatively use the polymer clay with the molds. If a butterfly has a torn wing while a bee has a perfect one, I am totally OK with it.If you are looking for perfect results every time you remove polymer clay from silicone molds, then these molds probably aren't for you. However, I am giving these molds 3 stars for being of some use to my own unique style of polymer clay art.
