Printers have been an enemy for my life (syncing, using, etc). This printer is so easy to setup and use. Plus it's compact to store (great for small apartments).

These print jobs are terrible and come out complete unprofessional looking. I try so hard to line each sheet up but as you can see by the yellow circle they never print truly straight. I tried using more than one sheet at a time and you can see from the second and third photo how that was a complete waste of paper. Wish I never bought this thing.

Why get a portable printer in today's mobile devices-reliant world with fewer print-outs?But why do some travelers prefer printing their boarding passes instead of just showing the QR codes on their phones? In our travels, there were several occasions when we needed to print out important documents and other trip information, and there weren't available printers in the hotel we stayed at or the nearby areas. This portable thermal printer is the solution to those situations. Having paper print-outs is also convenient, especially for those critical routes, destinations, and other travel details, instead of solely relying on our mobile devices for all that crucial information. Who could tell when those cellular or WiFi signals suddenly aren't working or are not available in the area you're in?The device itself is considerably narrower but a few inches longer and a bit heavier (at 1.6 lbs) than our last portable travel printer (Kodak Diconix) and utilizes today's tech innovations: built-in rechargeable and long-lasting lithium-ion battery, Bluetooth connectivity -along with the Phomemo app- on mobile devices or using the bundled USB cables for physical connections to laptop or desktop computers (after installing the appropriate drivers on your Mac or PC).We also like that the set includes a flannel pouch, a few pieces of thermal paper, and helpful instruction booklets. Unless you'll need to print out a lot, the set is ready to accompany you on your next trip. It's pointless to compare the print-out quality of these portable printers with the laser (or ink-jets) ones sitting next to your desktops or laptops. It's all about portability and the ability to produce a hard copy when you're on the road.We avoided portable thermal printers in the early days of mobile computing because thermal paper print-outs fade quickly in very little time - especially when exposed to direct sunlight. But thermal printing has also advanced since those early years when we had one on top of our desktop HP Touchscreen 150 and utilized a thermal paper roll. When handled or stored properly, today's thermal printouts can last three years (or longer). They are also more resilient when exposed to direct sunlight. And, yes, these portable thermal printers are not only smaller and smarter, but they are also getting inexpensive over the years!Of course, one of the hassles of taking along this portable thermal printer requires one not to forget to bring some letter-size thermal paper in one's luggage -- place a few inside a sturdy envelope so they won't get crumpled. Because you can't just go to a convenience shop or even a mid-sized store and expect these special papers to be readily available.Should there be a need, this portable thermal printer will surely be packed in one of our travel bags.

Thermal printers have come a long way as has the quality of thermal paper. I got one as a gift years ago and was profoundly disappointed--the print outs were smeary and rolled up like the early days of fax machines. To the credit of the companies that offer these products, they're really figured it out. Thermal paper quality has reached the point where you're not embarrassed to use it for a document that is going to a prospective client. It's still a little more pricey than I'd like but given the way you'll likely use it I'd imagine that a 200 sheet pack would last you awhile. I do question the cost effectiveness of thermal printing versus traditional printing. At the very least, any price savings is likely to be insignificant. The form factor, size and weight of the thermal printer makes traveling with it viable. The thing is tiny--1.57 lbs according to the product description and based on my 'feel' handling the product I'm surprised it weighs that much. If you've ever used one of the Brother DS-640 compact scanners the footprint is very similar. It ships with a velvet carry bag, but there are plenty of aftermarket hard cases on the market that would protect it better on the road without adding much weight. With this exception, you'll be all set right out of the box. In fact, the other components are likely things you already have: a USB-type C cable and USB-C adapter. It comes with some 'test' thermal paper as well. Setup and use is very simple with the Phomemo smartphone app. Connect to the printer via Bluetooth through the app, select a file and you're ready to go. It worked great on my Pixel 7 Pro phone and my OnePlus Pad tablet (both running Android). I know that one of the reviews said that it doesn't work with Windows but it that's the case it's likely an issue with the OS and not the printer. I used it with little trouble on my laptop and desktop PC running Ubuntu. You'll sometimes see this printer billed as a 'thermal tattoo printer' and it works for that but is perfectly suited to non-tat use cases as well.My wife and I have an ongoing debate about how useful this type of printer is while traveling. My contention is that there are plenty of existing options for printing to the point that you really don't need a printer with you 24/7. A high quality hotel will let you print to the front desk, or at the very least in the business center for a fee. There's also any number of office oriented businesses/mail centers/etc. that offer printing. My wife argues the other side, saying that the tiny size/weight makes it a worthwhile carry while traveling. I guess this is a question you'll need to answer for yourself. As for the printer, it does a great job--high quality performance, easy to use and easy to transport. Highly recommended!

I’ve used other thermal printers, but this one is far superior to others. I wish I would’ve found this printer earlier. Really easy to use and worth every penny.
