Product Description

Build a Strong Foundation for Reading with Sight Words Magnets!

What are Sight Words and why do they matter?

Sight words are common English words that often can't be sounded out. Readers who learn them by "sight" have an easier time reading. Since reading is a key skill for school and life, this 632 piece refrigerator word magnets kit, designed to help kids learn their sight words, can be a useful learning tool to add to your child's or classroom's collection. Kids learning to read can have fun while practicing their sight words through making fun phrases and sentences with this fully-loaded magnet set.

Benefits & Features

Learning Made Easy and Fun

Making phrases and sentences without the complications of writing and spelling offers kids the chance to relax and be creative with their writing and story telling. Boys and girls can use these Poetry Tiles to have fun while practicing their reading skills. This 632 piece kit has color-coded tiles for each Dolch grade level, alphabet tiles, and blank tiles. With these magnet words, kids can practice story-telling, sentence building, reading, spelling, and fine motor control.

loaded with sight words

This magnet kit has 632 pieces - far more words than other magnetic word sets. This includes all 220 Dolch sight words, many Dolch nouns, and lots of the Fry 500. Kids can explore their imaginations by making stories and poems with the included sight words and connecting words. With so many pieces and strong construction, these sight word magnets will be a valuable learning tool for years to come.

2x Bigger for better learning

Now with a bigger tile height of 0.75" (2x the size of most magnetic word tiles), kids can more easily compose messages and stories. The larger size makes it easier to manipulate the tiles and makes for a more enjoyable experience. Parents and educators requested bigger magnets and we're happy to deliver on that request!

For Best Use

tear vertically

Tear vertically and break apart

The tiles on each sheet are printed alphabetically in columns. If you want to keep the tiles in alphabetical order, tear sheets vertically then separate the tiles.

Pick up, don’t slide

Pick up, don’t slide

Pick up the tiles when you move them around to avoid scratches and other unwanted marks on your refrigerator or metal surface.

organize by leve or alphabetically

Organize by level or alphabetically

Words are color-coded by Dolch grade level (in case a student needs to practice a specific Dolch grade level for homework). To stay organized, you can group the words by grade or alphabetically to make it easier to find a desired word.

learn to read and write

Learn to read, write, and explore your imagination

Make fun poems and sentences while mastering sight words. If sight words flash cards or other reading tools aren't as effective for your child as you'd like, these magnets are a great alternative learning tool.

What people are saying about the product

what people say
faq magnet surface

Will this work on any magnet surface or just the fridge?

Poetry Tiles work on most metal surfaces - not just the fridge. You could also put them on a whiteboard/message board so you could write in extra words with a dry-erase marker if you want to.

Can it hold photos

Are these magnets strong enough to hold up pictures?

Using small pictures or lots of magnets can work, but if you're planning to put up large pictures or expecting to only use a few magnets per picture, that probably won't work. Each tile is strong enough to magnetize its own weight but not much more than that.

Mix with other products

Can I combine this set with other magnetic poem kits?

We have improved the tile height of our kids Poetry Tiles kits to 0.75" which is 2x the height of our other kits, and most of other brands in the market.

Most other kits are .375" tall, which many parents found too small for their children to use enjoyably.

If you are considering combining this kit with other word kits, please be aware that the tile height may differ between the two kits.

Repeat words

Are there repeat words or multiple copies of common words?

Yes, there are multiple copies of frequently used words. There are a few copies of most pronouns, connecting words (like to, and, but, is, am, etc), and word endings (like -s, -ed, -ly, etc). These repeats and connecting words enable more creativity and better grammar practice.

There are a TON of words! Great size and options of words. My only complaint is that because there are SO many words (which is great, don’t get me wrong) I’ve had a hard time storing and organizing the words. I ended up sorting them into nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc. and putting them in sandwich bags just so my son didn’t lose interest in making a phrase while looking for a word.I also find the colors and symbols under the words to be odd. I wish they were used to identify nouns and verbs instead of age groups. And not even every word has a color.

I purchased as Valentine's Day gift for my 5 yo son. He is learning to read and loves these fridge magnets! As I cook dinner, he creates sentences on the fridge. It's a great learning tool and gets families connected in the learning process.

I ordered these and several magnetic boards to help my daughter with reading and making sentences. There are a ton of words in here and it sort of becomes over choice for her. The words that a child uses tend to be repetitive so that is where we ran into issues. They should come up with another version for kids that have repeats of words and more animals and kid themes. It was difficult for us to come up with enough subject matter in the words to keep her interested and that was our biggest issue. For an adult to have on the fridge - go for it, you'll never run out of possibilities. The magnets themselves are high quality and there are so many that you will spend a lot of time just breaking them apart to use them which is oddly satisfying.

My son is going into first grade and uses them as we are in the kitchen. He’s learning and doesn’t even know!

These magnets are good quality, they stick well to the fridge and hold up well to regular use. There are SO many words. I wasn’t a huge fan of the symbols used on the tiles to identify grade level words. They didn’t always make sense and the symbol kind of takes away from the look. If the grade level categorization is necessary, I would have preferred color coding over the symbol for aesthetics.

This has been fantastic to help my students who are not good spellers find out how to spell a word. It was also helpful to help create sentences. I like that it is magnetic so kids can use it individually with dry erase boards or as a whole group. It allowed some of my students to expand their vocabulary and practice sounding out words. We also did use if for poetry, to help with rhyming words and word families. Multiple uses make this a great addition to a classroom.
