After reading the reviews about chemical smell when in the oven. I washed them with soap and water really good. I would heat the oven to about 350’ degrees. I put the both boards in the oven for 20 minutes. Then remove from oven rise them down to cool and washed them again and return back in the oven for another 20 minutes. I did this four times. You do smell the chemical smell the first time you put them in the oven. But dissipates after a while. So after the four drying, I don’t smell anything but the wood. They work great.

These boards are pine not cedar. That is my fault for not checking but I guess you get what you pay for, and these were cheaper. I was a bengal baker years ago and we always used cedar.

As soon as I opened this box, my wife asked "What is that smell?" The boards and burlap are well cut, and the cedar was smooth. However, the chemical smell was quite strong, so strong in fact that my wife ask me to get them out of the house. She did not want them anywhere near the food. The wood was also sticky with so type of coating.

Let's be honest, these are 1x4" cedar planks and jute upholstery webbing stapled on each end so if you are looking for value, I suggest putting your own together. If however, you are more interested in convenience, then these work fine.

These are well put together, the planks are straight and true, the burlap is well secured. They did have an awful chemically smell which seems to have dissipated after a good scrub with light dish soap and a lot of rinsing. Baking them off right now to dry, in a low temp oven. Hoping for the best! Will update tomorrow, as I have a batch of bagels ready to bake.Update to 5 stars. After washing these and baking them dry, I baked a batch of pretty good bagels with these. Worked really well, still a bit of a smell but, thats the burlap I guess, no off taste or smells in the bagels.
