Types of Push to Connect Fittings
- Push-Fit Couplings: These fittings are used to join two pieces of PEX tubing together. They have a simple push-to-connect design, allowing for quick and easy installation without the need for special tools.
- Push-Fit Elbows, Tees, and Other Shapes: Similar to push-fit couplings, these fittings allow you to create bends, branches, and connections in your PEX piping system without the need for soldering or crimping.
Installation Steps for Push-Fit Fittings
- Prepare the Pipe: Cut the PEX tubing to the required length using a PEX pipe cutter. Ensure that the cut is clean and square to facilitate a proper connection.
- Deburr the Pipe: Use a deburring tool to remove any rough edges or burrs from the cut end of the PEX tubing. This ensures a smooth connection and prevents damage to the O-ring inside the fitting.
- Insert the Fitting: Simply push the push-fit fitting onto the end of the PEX tubing until it reaches the shoulder of the fitting. The fitting is designed to grip the PEX tubing securely without any additional tools or sealants.
- Check the Connection: After installation, visually inspect the connection to ensure that the tubing is fully inserted into the fitting and there are no gaps or leaks.
- Pressure Test: Once all fittings are installed, pressure test the PEX system to ensure there are no leaks. Pressurize the system with air or water and check for any drops in pressure over time.
