I put these holds on an outdoor climbing wall for the kids. The holds themselves are great and I like the single large bolt setup - but the fasteners are not rated for outdoor use. After a couple weeks the black fasteners are bleeding rust down my wall. Replace with stainless fasteners or find a product that comes with them if that's a deal breaker for you.

Just installed them. Decent price. They definitely stink but have directions to mitigate it. Strapping wall with at least 3/4 inch as the holds have different depths. I cut them to avoid damage which I am sure voids any warranty. I am ordering 10 more now

First of all, super-fast delivery but does it matter because the wrong product was sent TWICE. I will say the Holds are pretty cool, except MANY cannot be installed because they have not been counter-sinked properly and the bolt cannot make it through the hold (it gets stopped by part of the hold that jets out, if that makes sense). I also would disagree that these are 'baseball' size. Some may be in diameter, but most are smaller and it would be more like a spliced' baseball. That being said, should you get enough that can go up, they are pretty cool and I like the look of them much better than a fake looking rock hold from MEC or other retailer. My 9 yr old LOVES the rock climbing wall. So I'm happy enough. We installed them on 3/4 " plywood and then fastened the plywood to the wall. Would give full 5 stars if they were a bit bigger and came as promised without the hassles.

they work just as described. the bolts do rust quickly after installation, but not terrible. The material looks and feels like rocks. One rock did chip during shipping but it was still usable for my project.

Great climbing holds. In person they look like some rock/concrete hybrid, but they're still a lot closer to real rock than most holds. Ordered 10, recieved 12 (thanks!). They do smell heavily of resin/glue out of the box. Wash them off and you can only smell it if you put your nose right on them (but then, what kind of climbing is that...?). Quality mounting hardware too. My only complaint is the sneaky way sellers send electronic shiping info to USPS right away to satsify Amazon's ship it in 2 days policy, then they putz around and barely get it out to reach you by the deadline. I still got the items only 7 days after I ordered them, so I'm happy with the wait time, the practice is just deceptive. If I ever look to build a bigger wall though, I hope this seller is still in business because these are really cool holds for the best price I've found.

First off, if you read all the reviews so far, do not be detered by the reviews that had trouble getting parts--whatever the cause was for that, it doesn't seem to be a problem anymore.Shipping: Product came very quickly, within 1 week actually--4 days before I expected it.Packaging: Was terrible, but nothing appeared to be damaged. All the parts were dumped into a Fed-Ex type box and shipped--no padding of any kind. I was suprised nothing broke, but because it all appeared to be intact I didn't lower my rating.Product: The product has a great feel to it and is very heafty. It's not smooth but rought like real rock, with a nice assortment of sizes and shapes. Several of the rocks were discolored (red or blue splotches on them) but I didn't mark the rating down because I recieved 4 extra rocks in my purchase! I ordered 30 but received 34. Because only 2-3 rocks where discolored, I saw no reason to reduce the rating--and frankly I was pleasantly surprised to have a few extra rocks to play with. The bolts that came with the rocks appears to be high quality and unless I mis-counted, they appears to have put a few extra in--also a nice surprise.Overall: I was VERY pleased with this purchase. Many companies are charging 50% more than this product cost for what I believe to be an inferior product. I would highly recommend (and have) this company to anyone who is making their own amature climbing wall. I'm no expert, but I have used public climbing walls and these appears to have all the quality of those walls, at a fraction of the price. And like I said, I was very happy with my extra rocks, spare bolt/nut, and super fast shipping time. Couldn't be more pleased =).

The good:Feel: Texture of the holds is great. I'm already a huge fan and I enjoy the feel of them more so than the other name brand holds on my wall. They don't get really cold on my outdoor wall like my real rock holds but they don't have the plastic(y) feel of run of the mill gym holds. It's the best of both worlds between real rock holds and plastic. The material used for these holds must be some kind of mix of polyester resin and perhaps Portland cement but I'm no expert; that's just my guess. Everyone that has tried them out very much enjoys the holds and their texture.Shapes: The shapes are fairly well thought out and allow for a fair degree of variation by rotation. There were a couple included that are great for pinching, a couple really nice buckets and some that offer training for those odd, hard to crimp/stack/edge holds, the latter of which i found to be a great asset to my wall.Strength: After a week of hard use, none have broken. In fact, a couple held up to some considerable 'adjustments' done with a hammer drill (see below). They appear to be very solid and quite strong.Color: Seriously, who cares? They could be striped pink and purple with Hello Kitty on them and it wouldn't matter. But, actually, the color is really nice. They look like real rock. The bad:Bolt Holes: First and worst was that the bolt holes on a couple of holds were deformed to the point where the head of the bolt wouldn't seat down into the countersunk [top] of the hole. This was a problem on three holds, to be exact. That being said, all three were easily fixed by using an SDS bit in a 18v drill on the hammer setting. About 3 seconds each drilling perpendicular to the bolt hole where the clearance was needed fixed the problem. The same mod could probably be done with a regular drill and masonry bit very easily. To be clear, this 'defect' (for lack of a better term) would NOT keep me from purchasing more of these holds. Easy fix for something that will probably last a lifetime.Odor: The other 'bad' is very nit-picky but I'm including it for the sake of doing a complete review. As mentioned in another review, the holds have a strong odor at first. If you're using them outdoors like me, it's not a problem. If you plan to use them in an enclosed area or room, you may want to leave them in a sun for a couple days to air out. After a few days of being on the wall, mine have no smell at all.Packaging: The other nit-pick is the packaging (or lack thereof). The holds were not packaged such that they would not tumble around in the box. In all honestly, I don't think this is a huge issue because I believe these things could withstand a lot of abuse (being dropped, kicked around, etc) during shipping. Again, not a big deal... after all, they're climbing holds, not Precious Moments figurines. Conclusion:Overall, great holds. I plan to buy more. You can't beat the value and the holds are great. I'm giving them the full five stars because even though i had to fix a few, the value, feel and functionality beat out the ding I would give them for the deformed bolt hole. I have already recommended them to my two other regular partners who are both building their walls now. They will likely be buying several.

I bought these to make a rock wall for our kids in the back yard. These were significantly less expensive than other options I saw on Amazon but I took a chance. What I received were some very nicely made holds! They are made out of some sort of rock-like plaster or cement, it is very strong and has the feel of rock (smooth, solid). Our wall is less than vertical (it's for young kids) and the holds are plenty big for kids to hold onto. They are of varying shapes and sizes. The kit includes bolts and nuts for bolting through wood, such as the 3/4" thick plywood that I used. The bolts are the correct length for 3/4" thick wood, I don't think they would work for anything thicker. The only negative is the bolts showed a bit of surface rust after a day outside, which tells me they are not stainless or galvanized, etc.. I'm in S. FL so rust on bare metal after 24 hours outside is normal for non-coated metal here, fortunately the bolts are thick enough that it's going to be some time before they rust through. Given the price, overall I am very happy and think this kit is a great value, especially for the price. I do recommend this kit and I'm happy I choose this one!
