It's quite a bit darker than my other ones, Maybe that's part of being high magnification I don't know, but I also had to use a clear plastic box and inch thick or so on top of my stage just to get slides into focal distance. That's why I'm returning it, it's as short as the x4 lens is , but the focal point is shorter than the x40 lens, which means with my stage all the way at full height it's still way too low to even try to focus. I'm using a "swift m2250" which is a common high school science class grade device.
