Today I learned about narrow/wide chainrings where every other tooth is too wide to be used with 2x setup. I'll returning this otherwise nice looking chainring.

Nice basic chainring probably best suited for a mid-level 1x set-up. No pick-up ramps or engineered teeth for shifting. Plan to use this only for either single chainring (1x) or conversion to a 1x, as this won't work well with indexed shifting. No anti-suck pin on the 38t ring so don't plan to use this as an outer ring. The included bolts are also for a 1x application and won't span across two chainrings. Would be good if the product title and description were more clear that this is intended for a 1x set-up. The product is well-machined and has nicely finished anodization.

Expectations: This thing was an absolute bargain, so anything beyond installing and being able to use it to turn the chain without it collapsing or constant chain drops is pure frosting on the cake.TL;WR: Wow, for a short term review, this thing has a bunch of frosting.Lets start of with the EXTREME tolerance this thing has been created with. On my Oval cranks I had to tighten down each bolt, in a star pattern, increment by increment, or it would get stuck on the tabs of the spider. When JZLTECH says 110BCD, they mean it. It's not 109.999 or 110.001, it is 110.000.The other fantastic thing is this thing looked exactly like the picture. For "budget" pieces I usually expect to notice a lot of photo shopping of the product-display images compared wtih real life. This chainring is machined to an almost mirror finish, and the anodizing is razor sharp.Speaking of anodizing, the included picture is after a few dozen miles. By now I'd expect the anodizing to be showing more signs of wear, particularly the 14F (-10C) temperatures the trial rides have been taken in. Long term I fully expect this to ablate, but this shows some quality finishing. The narrow-wide pattern is absolutely perfect for my setup, and I was really quite surprised at how well this has been machined. The chainring locks my SRAM PC-1031 chain in place with JUST enough friction.Final great thing: this chainring comes with some quality chainring bolts for converting from a multi-ring setup to a single ring. Higher priced chainrings, marketed by name brands you'd probably recognize, often don't - although they'll sell you some of theirs if you need them.I'll be a jerk and pick at nits, since nothing can be perfect: The included chainring bolts are shimano style. I'm sure everyone shopping for these kinds of parts has a Park Tool CNW-2 or equivalent, but I much prefer the SRAM style chainring bolts that let me use two hex wrenches. I shall deduct 0.2 of a star because of this, but since Amazon only deals with with whole number 4.8 stars gets converted to a deserved 5 star review.

I love narrow-wide chainrings for doing 1x conversions. Especially with older triple cranksets. My go-to was always Race-Face, but those have gotten expensive and more difficult to find in 5 bolt sizes so I tried this brand.Honestly, for the price these are great. Seem to be built well, they are made from strong 7075-T6 aluminum...just like the chainwheels on all top-shelf cranksets. And they don't have ridiculous graphics all over them (they have a clean look), so that's appreciated as well.

I was actually impressed by the quality of the chainring, at this price I expected something I'd be able to bend with my bare hands, but it feels just as sturdy as the OEM chainring I was replacing. I have no doubt that it would work fine for a commuter bike.Unfortunately, because my bike is a 2x9, this replacement part wouldn't fit on my bike without rubbing against my chainstay.

I actually keep a few of these on hand as they are inexpensive and make fixing things quick and easy. It is not hard to damage your chainring and waiting on parts and not being able to ride is not good. Great part that works as it should!
