I have had 2 sets of these and I am having the same problem where the tire is to tight wearing out the gears. I found that they are not made correctly, the center bushing is protruding out on the inside so the bolt is not going past the bushing causing the tire to lockup and then wear the gears out. I also found that the gear is not centered on the wheel and the diameter of the gear is smaller so it does not mesh completely with the main drive gear causing the top of the wheel gear to wear out and fail.

Bolts right on no problem. Just remember to count the number of teeth on the pinion ( 9 teeth matches the plastic gear ). Someone else described this in a review. They make a wheel with metal gears which are probably more durable but you need to change the pinion gear to match it. This unit is probably over 15 years old this is the second set of rear wheels I have put on. If you have some clogging and noise replacement will fix your problems. Runs just like new now. Good purchase easy fix, just like we want it.

I think these actually have a deeper tread than the Toro's by a slight amount. The only difficulty in installation is trying to align the several components in order to start the threads. &*%##&(%%&!BE SURE to order using the right model number. In my research I saw that this wheel uses a gear based around the axle, and another common type had the gear around the circumference. Yet the model numbers for the mowers were only one apart.

Wheels fit well, have nice tread, and were easy to replace… but the plastic receiver gear is already failing under the stress of the metal drive gears coming from the mower. Not sure how long it will last but I’ve only mowed twice and I can hear/feel the teeth giving up.

My 8 year old mower finally stopped self-propelling after the original plastic gears wore down. These replacements started to wear out after 1 mow. Fifth mowing last week and they are almost completely worn out. I would recommend you skip these cheap plastic ones and get metal gear replacements instead. Yes, they are twice the price, but will hopefully last more than a half dozen mows.
