I usually go with muzzle brakes that don't need to be timed because of the hassle it can be with shims and washers. These thin nuts make the job simple and fast. They work and are inexpensive.

I've had problems with crush washers so was trying to attach muzzle brakes / flash suppressors directly so I had metal to metal connections but impossible to get the timing correct. These eliminate the need for a crush washer, are easy to use/reuse, and ensure a good solid connection. I really like them and use them on all my threaded rifles.

Finding a jam nut that is perfect for .556/.223 barrels is surprisingly hard. I found these on Amazon and said what the heck. I saw bad reviews and that some people got polished silver ones however the ones I got were black. Absolutely perfect fit on my AR barrel. I used it to perfectly position the king comp from strike industries on my rifle. Absolutely recommend if your looking to perfectly place a comp on yours as well. Crush washers don't work as you cannot get the positioning correctly for these types of muzzle comps.
