Extremely disappointed in the customer service that Penguin Chillers provided. I purchased a 12/ HP high efficiency chiller and extended 3 year warranty from them. After a year and a half, it started to malfunction. Sent it in for warranty and then paid an additional $75 for cleaning of the unit after the repairs were completed. The warranty department shipped it out without ever verifying my address and shipped it to an old address i no longer have access to. Customer service will not make good on the shipping error and i am now out the $1000 for the chiller, the $150 in warranty and the $75 for the cleaning. Absolutely unacceptable especially considering they provided all shipping labels and it was packed shipped though FEDEX with their instructions and on something i have now spent over $1200 on.

The chiller is noisy and slow. It is very difficult to use and customer service was terrible when I needed to troubleshoot.

This little machine is worth its wait in gold. 1/2 horse unit. Can cool my hot tub down to 70 degrees. Note: I do have a shade tarp over gazebo and leave the hot tub lid off. I use a Wayne pump to circulate the water. The yellow one. Get home from a long day working out side in AZ summer and cool of in my chill tub with some suds. LG

Great chiller hope they make a lower hp for smaller setups though as the 1/2 is more than enough for my 40 gallon RDWC. My last grow I faced root rot due to water temperatures being high(in the 80s) I set the temperature to 65 and this cooled my water from 80 to 65 in about 30 minutes. It constantly Keep my water at 65 turning on anytime the temperature goes up 1 degrees pass the set point and only runs for about a minute to get the temperature back to the set point so its not running all the time. On my new grow My roots are white and healthy now. I checked out all the chillers available and the reason why I went with Penguin chiller verses the other chillers is because of the good quality and reviews mentioning how long they last. I wanted a chiller that would last long instead of breaking down or malfunctioning and me having to repair or send back. I had this for about a month so far and no complaints. Just a heads up the inlet and outlet are 1 inch threaded and it does not come with any fittings I had to make a trip to my local hardware store(Lowe’s/home depot) to buy the fittings but it was not a big deal. The fittings cost about a dollar each. Also it was well packaged tight/secure and even though the delivery person had left the package turned upside down when I opened there were no leaks no damage. The manual just says to leave it in the upright position for 2 hours before using and that’s what I did. Plugged it up and worked fantastic. GLAD I BOUGHT A PENGUIN

I don’t know where all these amazing reviews come from unless their friends wrote them. We bought this very expensive chiller and less than 48 hours later it stopped working. They then went through the trouble shooting process with us and it took hours of our own time away from our family working on it. My husband is very technically saavy and nothing worked. Finally after nothing worked we asked to send the unit back. They said there is a 20% restocking fee: buyer beware! That leaves the customer in a very poor position to lose money by this company selling a faulty product. We are trying to buy American made but the lack of a good quality product here for such a high cost really deters me from wanting to spend more for less.

I have 4 of these, the first one is 3 years old and they all work like a champ. Some of the first ones need the controls moved away from the inlet and outlet tubes to prevent water damage.

Bought this chiller from Eric at Penguin about 2 years ago. I couldn't reccomend this company enough. The company takes air conditioners and retrofits them with heat exchangers. The end product is perfect. Very quiet and very energy efficient. Our last chiller froze and cracked because the main aquarium pump malfunctioned and the chiller kept running. Our thermostat probe is part of a dual function heat / chill control so the probe sits in the sump. If you order the built in thermostat you are good to go, if you use an external thermostat, we have a solution for you. Use a second thermostat and set it to 45f, attach the probe inside the chiller to the heat exchanger, so long as everything is functioning normally, chiller will remain operational, if water pump shuts down and chiller keeps running, when it brings the heat exchanger down to 40f, the chiller will shut down preventing freeze up
