Great idea to keep the furnace running in a power failure, with my generator. But not a great choice of product to do the job. Worked for a couple times on a test basis. But my gas furnace stopped on one of. the coldest days of the yr. single digit. temp. My repair man found the problem quickly......it was my new transfer box that wasn't working and cutting it off. He disconnected the box and walla ,the furnace started right up. I had this box installed professionaly and now cost me another $100 to have it disconnected. Find a better choice!

We moved a freezer into an outbuilding temporarily, and when we lost power in the summer I had to scramble a bit to get power from the generator to it. All was well, the power was only out for a few hours but I didn't want to deal with that again. I wired this transfer switch in to let me easily switch the freezer over, as well as power the lights in the outbuilding to make life easy. Installation was easy, the wiring is straightforward. I like that it has a light to let you know that the generator power is on. It's simple to use, just switch from main power to generator or off. The plug to seal it from the elements works well enough when you're not connected to the generator, but it would have been nice to be able to plug in and have it still well protected so I could mount it on the outside wall. Not a big deal, I just mounted it in a protected but slightly less convenient location. It switched over properly when I tested it, so I'm in good shape for the next power outage.

Single circuit transfer switch for use with generators under 2000 watts rating. I may wire this to transfer power to a circuit from an inverter instead of generator, but it still isolates each power source. This comes with about 1 foot wires to tie into a house circuit. The wires are 12 gauge (so could go into a 20 amp house circuit despite the 15 amp gen breaker), yet I see they are aluminum wires. I've seen some things saying "Copper wires only", so that may or may not be a concern. The wires are clearly marked for "load out", "Line in", etc so you don't get them mixed up (as well as color coded whites for neutral, etc.) Looks like well planned to make install go as easy as possible.

If you have a large generator and are intending to power your whole house, this is not the device you are looking for. It is only designed to handle 15 amps which is fine if you just want to use a small generator to power your refrigerator and a few LED lights during a power outage. It is easy to install, you just need to wire it in line with that circuit and then connect your generator to the socket on the front of the box. Then you use the rocker switch on the front to choose either regular or generator power. This makes it so that your generator will not feed power back into the city lines which would be dangerous for workers working on the power lines during a power outage. To help understand how I rate items:My philosophy is, that for a rating system to be effective, the highest rating and the lowest rating should be reserved for a relatively small percentage of the best and the worst products. If I give a product four stars, it is because I believe it is a very good product. To get five stars from me requires a product to go above and beyond and really impress me beyond my expectations. By the same token, a product has to be VERY, VERY bad to get only one star from me. One thing that I DON'T take into consideration with my ratings is price. I may make a general statement such as “this is a good value” but it will not affect my star rating. The reason is that product prices change, even from day-to-day. Also what one person may consider a good price someone else might not. I feel it is more important to review the quality and features of a product and let the buyer decide whether the current price is worth it to them. Another thing that I don't take into consideration are issues with shipping. This is because the seller does not always have control over that. Following is each of the five categories of *stars* and how I assign them to a product:***** Five stars - The product exceeded my expectations. I really love it and would actively suggest it to friends and would certainly purchase it again if needed.**** Four stars - The product met my expectations. It does what it claims to do. I like it and would recommend it to someone if they asked about it. I would Most likely purchase it again if needed .*** Three stars - The product is average and for the most part does what it claims. There may be a few things I don't like about it. If I recommended it to someone, I would state my reservations. I may purchase it again if I could not find a better alternative.** Two stars - The product fell far short of my expectations. It may, in some respects, do what it claims to do but has far too many problems to overlook. I would never recommended it to someone nor would I ever purchase it again. There is a good possibility I would return it.* One star - The product is terrible. It has way too many cons and few if any pros. I would actively warn my friends away from it and would most likely return it if possible.

The ETL is not approved for this product. This has a false label ; the label is for the inlet ONLY. There has never been testing, approvals or quarterly inspections done per UL requirements on this product as a generator transfer switch. Product manufactured by one overseas company, and many are selling this misleading the public. This will not pass inspection in the USA or Canada. Generator transfer switches require testing for safety, this has by-passed all testing.

Everything works exactly as described, not sure why other reviews mention no knockouts, there's 3 and there's plastic plugs w retainer nut plugging them, other reviews mention wiring backwards, not mine, confirm everything with an ohm meter before installation and all wires were labeled correctly. When the power fails our furnace will be ready to be powered up with a generator and extension cord with it completely isolated from the main power grid (no back feeding)
