I am not certain that this device is was loaded with malicious software but It seems might coincidental that after I plugged it in, my AV flagged 11 malware items, two of which were trojans and all posed a high threat. Not cool. Buyers beware, don't make the same mistake I did and plug an un-vetted device in to your machine. I admit, stupid mistake on my part.

I was able to program this with a raspberry pi 3B. I'm cheap, so i didn't want to buy a pin header I'll use once. I used some betionol/instamorph heat moldable plastic. Just push into the pins until they pop out, let harden, it'll pop right off. Then i stuck 30awg solid wire through the holes and pulled to the sides. The plastic is soft enough to deform when you push it back on, which holds the wires in good contact with the pins. Tack them in place with super glue if needed. The other ends i just wrapped around standard breadboard cable ends.Hope that's helps someone.Works fine with zigbee2mqtt as a coordinator. Used this to test some aqara door/window sensors which included fine. 40 feet away and around a hall corner i was getting single digit link quality, but still working. With line of sight, mid 40's at 30-40 feet. Good enough.Overall, can't complain. Works if you're willing to set it up, and know what you're getting into. Now i know why I'll stick with zwave though.You might want to take a soldering iron to that green LED which is crazy bright.

I bought this to verify that my blinds would work with zigbee2mqtt and it's great. I'll probably upgrade to a more powerful device (a CC2652P) for my coordinator, but I'll re-flash this as a repeater to bolster my zigbee network. works like a charm.

I bought this one specifically because it had the antenna, which so far seems to work pretty nice. Works great for Home Assistant Zigbee2MQTT, but make sure you know that you have to flash the firmware first, and to do so you need to either have a Rasp pi or buy the standalone debugger. Doing it with the Rasp Pi is relatively straight forward but you need to have some spare jumper wires!If you can, buy the "downloader cable" (search amazon for 'cc2531 zigbee downloader') otherwise, you will be breaking apart spare electronics (In my case, a small motion-sensing cat laser toy has connectors that were small enough to fit), trying to find connectors small enough to fit the tiny pins.I used the Case -> Motherboard power and reset switch wires from an old case of mine for the Rasp pi side, but for the CC2531, they are even smaller, but you can bend them if you need to, to get some more room. Just search for "flash cc2531 without cc debugger" for the steps to do the actual flashing.

I've bought two, flashed them with Router firmware to extend the range on my home. And It has been awesome. I also use them with Home Assistant.For flashing a bit of soldering is required (Using a Raspberry Pi) or make sure to use some clipper type jumpers if you don't want to solder.

Works great with my Zigbee2Mqtt setup. The antenna is almost a necessity because it greatly increases the range. I tried a version without the antenna and it could barely reach zigbee devices outside my bedroom.
