Very hard to get them to clamp on something without raising it off the bench. I had to use a separate clamp to hold the work down. Defeats the purpose of side clamps so you can sand the top.

I recently bought a work table that has dog holes in it. I use these to keep my little saw from moving on my workbench. They work great and look nice.
