used with 3/8 - 16 drain/fill hole screw on all MerCruiser stern drives, Mercury and Mariner outboards

Helps prevent gear lube from leaking out and water from seeping in to the gear case causing serious damage.
This is the non-magnetic plug screw version.

Some people remove those plugs with what ever is handy, even if it does not fit, and then the slot gets all screwed up. If you don't get 'em tight, water can get in, then you can have issues. If you get these plugs, find or create the tool to use to remove them. They should fit snug in the slot - now always use that tool!I say replace the seals every time. If the old seals look good, it's up to you. Again, these are the top plugs, the bottom drain plug has the magnet. I advise to keep plenty of extra seals on hand at all times - I buy packs of 20.
