**Edit update:The seller reached out to me to inquire if everything was ok with the lamp. It aired out and smells fine now. Then I asked them if the cord could be shortened and they sent me instructions with pictures to show me how. Really fantastic customer service and I just adore the lamp.**This Fivemengo lantern is similar to a huge round one my parents had in our living room. It was my favorite lamp, like a giant celestial object.This lamp is smaller and ovoid but I still love the shape and style. Hope I can install it soonBUTWhen I opened the box the smell was overwhelming and it's not a pleasant smell. I can't describe it but it is awful and it permeates.I've moved the lamp and box into the garage loft which has good airflow and I'll keep checking to see if the smell goes away.Right now I can't install the lamp until that smell is gone.

So beautiful, I had to order immediately as the design just resonated as fresh but traditional simultaneously. I was very pleased to find it more substantial than just rice paper (which is absolutely lovely as well but typically fetches a lower price.. although this particular shape would be worth it alone) but it's actually textured almost like a paper machet, slightly flexible but provides a more white matte finish and presence versus paper alone perhaps. I love it. The cord is not fancy, to say the least, and it is not obtrusive or distracting once hung. If not clear from my photos, the shade is finished at the underside with a silver metal/ chrome ring which definitely adds something to the traditional style as well. I absolutely love my new ceiling decor piece!
