This is a gem to have as a reference even if you do not knit. Very nice pictures showing the patterns of the knitting because most of the samples are done in cream, so it is easy to see the way the knitting has been done. The book definitely targets advanced knitters as the combinations are difficult, specially if you are not used to read the graphic map for the patterns. A must to have in case you become familiar with more advance knitting.

I like these books. I happen to do well with their instructions, and they have a nice selection of stitches.

Have really enjoyed this book. Have spent hours and hours practicing the different stitches and patterns. The directions are very clear and easy to follow. So glad I bought this.

I like the book. It uses abbreviations and charts that take some study to figure out and many of the patterns are duplicated in different sizes. I'm not sorry I bought it.

The original Harmony Guides are my absolute favorite stitch dictionaries. Sorry Barbara Walker, I love your stitch dictionaries too, but I like the Harmony Guides better. I have three other Harmony Guides and have been wanting to add this one to my set for ages. Since it is out of print, I could never find it at a price I could afford so I was thrilled to find this one. The older versions of the Harmony Guides are superior to the new version that were published a few years back, even with the smallish photos in the older versions. This one is just as good as the other Harmony Guides. The only issue I have had with them is that the pages eventually try to come apart from the binding. But that isn't surprising considering the age of the books. If you like Aran stitches, do yourself a favor and hunt down a copy of this book.

The instructions are so clear and the compilation of patterns orderly. Highly motivated by this great presentation of ideas. Quite the ost comprehensive book on aran and cable patterns.

I must have gotten one of the first of these, and I read it like a novel for the first week I had it. I love the history and maps and photos at the front. I prefer the charting style to what is in a lot of patterns, because I almost always end up using circular needles. I prefer to do top-down in the round knitting whenever I can. I love the photos and the combinations. I think I've used at least something out of this book on at least 10 projects (that actually got finished!)Only complaint: Yes, the binding on my copy came apart fairly early on. So, I punched holes in the sheets and put it all in a 3 ring binder with pages that I print off the internet and little clips of yarns and stuff. The binder has one of those clear plastic covers that I slipped the covers of the book into.rubyintherough.blogspot.com
