I went through the diagnosis process that I found online. Determined that it was the low rpm side of the switch box. Straigt forward replacement and the motor started right up. I adjusted the timing which was way off and my motor now runs like a top! It has been running with the new seitchbox for about a month

I guess one star for being delivered in a timely manner. (mid 90's Merc 40 h.p. manual start tiller) Did not work out of the box. Ended up replacing the trigger and stator anyhow. Mercury website suggested this for 7-10 years of service if either stator or switchbox was tested and showed as bad. Anyway, still no spark and this new unit's Ohm readings were 15k to ground on the high and low speed coil posts. They should be open (0 Ohms) . Bought a true CDI unit for $275 ( don't care where it's manufactured, at least there is QC) lo and behold, it actually solved the problem. Still $100+ cheaper with both purchases than what local marinas would have charged! Chinese knock off is a waste....

I had a blown voltage reg and started with that but the engine still wouldn't take throttle and trying to tune the engine mixture screws was all whacky. Ok so I tried this computer and yup, she runs like a champ. And it did come with a cover. Some say it does not but mine did. All my wires matched up by color and where in the same location. 1995 Merc ELPTO 115 HP outboard.Update - 2 hours on the engine and both the rectifier and switch board are toast. Not sure which comes first, chicken or egg so it might not be the switch other than it was a casualty due to something else but it did fail. Looking into the stator and pick up and any potential shorts in the system. Going to all US made parts.
