The TaskStar retractable air hose reel is a 3/8-inch x 65-foot heavy duty compressed air reel with a 180° swivel mount. The auto-rewind completely enclosed reel can pull out to any length and then lock. It can then be unlocked and rewind by simply pulling on the hose while locked. The hose has an adjustable stop on it that can be engaged manually. The bracket and the enclosure are all made of plastic. The unit is designed to be installed on a wall. The hose is made from a composite of PVC and rubber that gives it a rubber feel and appears to be somewhat durable. The hose is rated up to 300psi and can be used in temperatures of -4 to 113F degrees. It is not as flexible as a traditional rubber air hose.I mounted the reel on a 15 ft. ceiling of the shop. I had to drill a hole through the plastic pin that holds the unit to the bracket so I could place a cotter pin in it to make sure it stayed in place. So far it has worked well though it is not in everyday use. I am quite happy with the hose reel but the use of so much plastic does make me feel this may not last.

I recently got a new air compressor and had an older hand wind hose reel that was mounted on the wall. I took that whole reel and hose off the wall and replaced it with this self retracting reel and hose. Mounting it was super simple and I now have a hose reel that can swivel side to side and self retracts. I love the brush at the entry port that helps to keep dust off the hose when it retracts. It is very simple to use. It does not have the clicky click sounds of many other retractable hose reels. This one is very quiet but works perfectly. All you do is pull out on the hose until you have enough for what you are doing. When you stop pulling out the hose, it will stay at that length. When you want it to retract, just pull out slightly on the hose and then let it start retracting. If you want to stop it from retracting, just pull back out slightly again at your desired length and then release. The hose will stay there until you pull out on it again. The lead hose that it comes with is plenty long enough to put this high on the wall so that it's out of the way yet still connects to the air compressor. The hose stop is easy to adjust on the hose so I can have enough hose hanging down to easily grab it when needed but not be in the way. I'm very happy with this reel and would highly recommend.

For something that seems to have a lot of plastic this hose reel is unbelievably heavy. I was just shocked when I first picked it out of the box. I have an all metal one that is heavy as well but it’s been hanging from the ceiling for a few years so I can’t compare them side by side.The fully enclosed hose reel concept is something I never had much use for as I like to see what’s going on when I reel them in to avoid issues and believe me, sooner or later, a retractable hose reel is going to give you heartburn. The price you paid for it has nothing to do with this fact either. But, I thought I would give it a whirl and see if I was missing something. I have been using this reel for about a month and have not had any issues so far so that’s a plus.The sixty five foot hose is kind of an odd number for length and I have not measured it to see but it is a bit longer than my fifty foot one. The hose itself seems like a normal rubber hose to me, it’s not super soft and flexible like those bright green ones are but it is a hose and it does work fine so far. One thing I have noticed is that the reel cleans the hose when retracting it in with some little brushes which is cool. I suppose it keeps debris out of the closed shell design which could be trouble.One thing this reel does that my metal one doesn’t is pivot from side to side. I have some hanging electrical cords that have this feature on their reels and I have always found it helpful. Seems the same on this hose reel. Just seems to retract and pull better when the reel is facing the hose. You need some real wood to mount this thing on. Forget about drywall anchors even though there were some included. Reel is way too heavy for those but this is obvious so I will not dwell on that.The reel comes with standard IC fittings making it super easy to hook up or move it from one compressor or dryer to another. No trips to the store for brass fittings with this one just to get it going.This reel lacks the audio that my metal one sings to me about when I can stop it and hopefully make it stay out after two or three tugs. This hose just stops when you keep pulling on it and doesn’t really have wide sections where it just won’t stop. I keep threatening to tear into it just to see how their ratcheting systems works and why it is so quite but I won’t. I will just keep using it until I can’t one day and then shop for another I suppose. When it does quit working you better believe I am going diving though.For one hundred twenty buck range this hose reel is priced below what one would expect to pay for a good all steel one and I would say that for a homeowner this reel will probably last for years with moderate use. I can see where multiple deployments a day, everyday in a shop would decrease that forecast considerably though.I like it and am intrigued about how quite it is and am hoping that this will be the new normal for hose reels one day. Overall I believe this is a good product.

I like the quality of the materials. The hose is nice and pliable. The fittings are solid. I like that it mounts to the wall. I really like that this hose comes on reel, I hate having an air hose piled up on the ground.Overall, really nice setup., would recommend.

Have to help it retract and it leaked air somewhere inside of it

I've seen many of these that are just pure junk. This one isnt'. It installed solidly and is manouverable so that it is actually very handy. The hose is decent and so far no leaks. I'll update as I use this over time, but I think this is a pretty nice unit.

I like that this comes with a long hose and it holds air well. The hosing and mount feel like thin plastic and do not seem like they will last in a shop/garage if used often. The hose is really stiff which inhibits the pull functionality to some degree. The retraction mechanism is decent but again doesn't feel solid and I'm not sure how long it will last if used often. This is probably more geared to occasional home users and not a shop that will constantly be using it.

If you have a fixed shop space, this is an important organization tool. You won't ever want to go back to looped air hoses. This is well built and has been serving my shop great for a few months now. I highly recommend it!
