Allows connecting a 40-pin ribbon cable to a GPIO port. The notch and extra padding on the ribbon cable head prevent it from being directly attached to the GPIO port. The pins on this header are delicate and bend easily; I broke one of three headers. All of the pins had to to be bent to give the correct spacing between pins; first the top row then the bottom, using the ribbon cable head itself. It was difficult attaching the cable but, once it is connected, used electrical tape to keep it together. It works perfectly.
