This is a neat little tool. Maybe it indicated in the write up but I missed that is has a magnet to stick it onto a cabinet. Makes an easy job even simpler. Worth a couple bucks. Buy the set and give a couple to your friend

Well, made. easy to use. I see that the ordinary #2 pencil works but I'll put in a set screw to keep the pencil from loosening and pushing up due to downward pressure while using. Overall, a fine item to have around your shop.The holes in the 2 round posts appear to be for pencil storage. Good idea I think.

I always struggled in the past on finding the center of a 2 x 4, this tool is so accurate and easy to use. Every handyman, wood worker or even crafter needs this little tool in their tool box! Highly recommend purchasing this!

works OK but not great. pencils do not fit tight and tend to loosen while tool is in use. would recommend looking for another option.

Very surprised by this. Pretty accurate on the side quick measurements. The magnet holds pretty strong. It's holding an 1-1/4 that weighs 4.5oz.Accurate center line I tried both ways to make sure. The opening between the pegs are 2-1/2 inch so a good amount of thicknesses to to use on.I don't know if these hole through the pegs are supposed to be functional for something but they are 2 holes different size on each peg with a slight index on the outsides. The grip is easy to use but only takes standard #2 pencils. I'd still put my finger on the top of the pencil even though the gripper looks like it pinches the pencil well. Maybe a shorter pencil. Over all I'm happy to have made this purchase @ 4 for $10 where a 2 pack was 10 bucks and a single was 9 bucks at the time of this order.

Some responses to other reviews. No, it won't mark center ALL THE WAY to the end of the board. But it's not supposed to. This thing makes FINDING center easy. That's it's purpose. The flat handle IS the reference for the notched marking feature. It's not upside down. It would be awesome if there was a built in pencil sharpener. But that's the only mark against it I can note. ( I have an update!! I finally got to the shop and I realized everything I said above is true, but..... The etched measurements on the lot I received are reversed!!!! The 1/8th mark is actually the 1/16th and the 1/16th is actually 1/8th. They are still accurate though, once you know what it's supposed to be. )

Accurate but you must understand that when you use it that the measurement markings are on the underside. So you must look at the specific measurement notch and then flip it over and remember which one it was. Why would the manufacturer not have the markings on the visible side?
