All we did was pull of the plastic wrap with our fingers and just unrolling the template made it rip. We weren't rough with it or anything... It just ripped where it bent slightly.Instead, we used a chalk snap line & bought a spray can roller carriage and the line spray cans that go with it to paint straight parking lines. This was a very easy option.
