Why should we replace the old AC compressor clutch?

The AC compressor serves the purpose of converting the low-pressure refrigerant into a high-pressure refrigerant and sends it to the condenser. It is the central component that maintains the pressure difference between the high-and low-pressure sides of the AC mechanism. Proper lubrication is essential to prevent the compressor from premature wear. A bad compressor, of course, will not send the refrigerant under the required pressure, thereby failing to provide optimal cooling to the vehicle.

How to install?

1. Always wear eye protection.

2. Remove the failed compressor. Transfer any switches, sensors, brackets, or manifolds from the original compressor to the replacement unit.

3. Thoroughly flush each component not being replaced with an approved AC flush solvent.

4. Replace the accumulator or dryer and all expansion devices. including the orifice tube and screen.

5. After installing the replacement compressor on the vehicle ensure proper mounting and belt alignment.

6. It is recommended to install an in-line filter in the suction line near the compressor inlet.

7. Add the proper type and amount of ac oil as per manufacturers procedures.

8. Apply a vacuum to the car ac system. A minimum of 29 inches of mercury for one hour to insure moisture and residual flushing solids or boiled from the system.

9. Recharge your air conditioning system using the recommended Freon.

10. After you finish your repairs, conduct a complete system performance test.

Great value for money, I purchased this as a Canadian because even with shipping and duties it was cheaper than anything available here.I can’t speak on the quality because I just installed it the other day, but it fits perfectly and requires no modifications for installation. I used both of the provided shims even though they were larger than the OEM one and it’s performing well. I did this because on the 8th gen forums people mention that the OEM shims become smaller over time. This repair took me over 14 hours because I tried to take some shortcuts. You will want to remove the alternator in order to properly install the magnet ground cable. You will also want to rent/purchase a tool for pulling off the existing clutch assembly, because doing it by hand can take a very long time.Additionally, DO NOT use a box wrench for the belt tensioner like every video online says to, it is very easy to round or snap the tensioner stud. I snapped mine and had to purchase a brand new tensioner for $100 plus hex bits to be able to remove it, which itself was incredibly tedious and time consuming to replace. Just buy the right tool. Also the AC system takes around 15 ounces of R134A from empty. The smallest available cans are equivalent 15 ounces, do not overfill your AC.

I purchased a ac compressor clutch for my 2008 Honda civic and I just installed it last week. I must say it is working beautifully I'm glad I didn't buy the compressor itself because I saved hundreds of dollars.

Not for the faint of heart, pain in the butt to replace. Be prepared for lock rings that do not cooperate. Works great once installed though.
