This is a great gift for your budding engineer. You can build 4 different things from this one kit so it helps eliminate boredom. The solar aspect is fascinating to the kids too. I bought this for a 7 1/2 year old and he was able to work with it once he had some adult help. This was a great project to do together.

Son complained about the instructions not being clear. Not sure if he completed the robots due to the difficulty level.

I ordered this for my newly-7 year old because she's a STEM Jedi of the highest order. There are aspects of it that make it require adult participation in the building of the robot in its various forms so I don't think I'd hand this off to anyone younger than a tween and expect them to get great results alone but that would depend on the specific kid I suppose. The robot works well with all 4 of the power options and is a really fun way for my daughter to explore alternative energy sources in a way that she is interested in and can grasp. I love a toy that can also teach complex ideas in simple ways.

I love all of these stem kits. It is a great way to spend time with the kids. Just be sure you let them do most of the work. They take such pride when the unit is completed. Teaching such good life skills.
