Like others said before it doesn't send a 5.1 surround sound to your pc. It's just stero. Even if you you have the adapters i ordered before hand. It just doesn't work. I'll be sending this back. Please don't waste your time and money buying this

Item was DOA. I had the previous model with coax and fiber only digital inputs. I used my smart TV as the audio source. I hooked up this 5.1 extractor to the Tv's HDMI ARC connector and got nothing from the previous 5.1 amplifier setup. I played with all the TV's digital audio options and in the end got nothing out of the extractor. No sound even when power-cycled. Don't buy is all I can say.

This box looked promising, but the quality is so poor that when you wiggle the RCA plugs, you can hear the sound cut in and out on that channel. At least if the electronics did what you would expect, and it truly outputted all 5.1 channels from LPCM, that might be acceptable. But, sadly, it doesn’t. Only the Front channels actually worked. I could never really figure out what it was doing with the other channels. The box you do want is the one from Monoprice. That one works like a champ. I ended up returning this one.

This hdmi audio converter does exactly what I wanted, but I wasn't sure from the description. I used it to extract audio from a 5.1 Dolby HDMI signal going to an old plasma tv that does not downmix audio. Both the RCA analog outputs and the stereo output function (didn't try optical). As far as I can tell the 3.5mm stereo output is a true downmix rather than just the front L/R signals.

Same experience as the other reviewer. All it does is split the sound from the Roku into different channels but they're all the same (every speaker has the same output regardless). It really isn't decoding true 5.1 surround. I could do the same thing by just hooking up extra speakers and saving the $50.

Tested out of my Roku and using a 5.1 test video on YouTube, the fronts and rears are the same. I decided to keep it and use it only for the stereo aspect but will be looking for a true surround decoder.
