I am a quilter. I started my first quilter in 1968. I made many mistakes but boy I loved it and took it to college with me. As the years went by, I accumulated a lot of 100% cotton quilting fabric and started collecting quilting supplies of all kinds. As life moved a long I discovered that there were two types of quilt blocks that I loved to make. One being a log cabin block that can be made with leftover scrap strips. The other block is variation on a theme. It uses a finished 4" square, 2" square, and a 2" x 4" rectangle or any variation on those pieces. These templates gave me the 2" finished square and a 2" by 4" finished rectangle. I have a 4.5" square quilting ruler that takes the place of the 4" square. When I am cutting out a lot of pre-cuts, I usually use a rotary mat, rotary cutter and a ruler. However if I only have a piece that is small enough to cut out one piece, these templates will be great to use. I call these my 2 x 4 blocks.I appreciate the opportunity to try these templates. These were a gift from my son and I adore working with them making hand-sewn quilting projects, very addictive. Now looking for the exact same templates but in double or triple size.

I'm still more of a beginner with my long arm quilting machine, and I'm practicing using templates and rulers when I'm stitching. So, while I expected to use these square and rectangular templates for cutting quilt pieces, I determined very quickly that they would be great to use with stitching too! The first thing I noticed was that, at 5mm, they are thicker than my other rulers/templates. These don't get caught under my quilting foot and they're easy to hold in place while I'm moving the fabric. I was expecting 4 pieces, but I received 8 - the solid squares/rectangles that were cut out of the center of the templates were included in the kit (I see that as a bonus). The edges are all smooth and the measurements are completely accurate. These are top quality quilting templates with a fantastic price!
