Being able to reconfigure your IVAR shelves as your needs grow and change is pretty much the point of this line. It's fun to create your new space but so easy to lose those pegs. Especially if you have cats. You either don't know where it went or you know exactly where it went and there is chance you are "moving that huge thing" or "sticking your hand under there." You don't want to try using only three pegs either. Save yourself that disaster and trust me when I tell you, it looks like you beat the system, but you are going to flip some stuff off that shelf when you hit that certain weight that is nowhere near as much weight as you believed it would. If you tried to order those things through the IKEA site, you know you can't. If you trek across Middle Earth to your nearest store, you have a 50/50 chance of them having them there and another 50/50 chance from there that they will give you a replacement without the receipt. Not worth it.These pegs are your solution. The 6mm feel a little tight but seat just right after a firm push. The 5mm could function in a pinch, but they are not as solid in the peg hole and the shelf cleat just rests on there rather than lock down.Get a pack and keep them on hand for those readjustments, especially if you have a cat because even if you beat the doubled up 50/50 odds, they still aren't going to give you as many as your cat helped you lose.

These pins fit well, and seem sturdy enough. I learned the hard way that not all bookshelf pin holes are the same diameter, so pay attention to the diameter you are ordering. You should be fine as long as you order the correct size pin.

I made an error in measurement, and unfortunately, these pins were a bit too small for my application, however that doesn't have a bearing on the fact that I could tell these would have done exactly as promised had I ordered the right size.
