I use a lot of these 18650 cells to make batteries which power automation devices as well as hobby equipment. It's important to examine your cells often and never carry them in pockets. Also you must keep the insulation maintained to avoid mishaps often leading to fires. These little paper insulators are vital to the insulation of these cells and they form a physical electrical barrier between the cathode and anode of these cells.In the first photo you see a popsicle stick I've cut to a point and am pointing atop one of these cells. The tip is pointing to an almost invisible plastic insulator seperating the two external electrodes on the cell. If you put one of these naked or even a cell with damage up here where I'm pointing into storage and it comes to be that this tiny space is bridged with metal - Potential Fire! Storage Is Important - Be safe please.Okay off my soap box. These little peices of self sticking protection caps should be replaed each time you re-sleeve as these are almost always damaged along with the sleeve.Order yourself some of these as well as some sleeves and keep your cells and batteries safe and don't burn your house or shop down.Side note. There are two package type for these cells - these are known as flat top, simply meaning that they are not current ( as in amperage ) limitations on their output. This type of cell ( commonly called a battery ) are capable of delivering amazing amounts of current if directly shorted. This ability to deliver many tens if not hundreds of amps if exactly why they are useful for certain applications but are also why they can cause a fire. If your application does not need high current, the button top ( I think that's what people call them ) are a bettor choice for you.

Must have if you're rewrapping. That top part is the #1 place where the negative (whole body of the cell) and positive usually short out causing thermal runaway. Don't skip this step.
