This HASP is decent quality for the price but I would not use it for Heavy Duty applications or on doors that are constantly opened and closed. This is more appropriate for keeping a light door/latch closed that are not used every day.

Item came well packaged with screws that are probably appropriate for the quality of this latch. It does feel and appear to be a stainless steel however packaging just states "High quality metal". This item would function fine for something like a tool box or cabinet that you just want to lock up to keep kids out or to know if somebody did break in. The main hinge is a bit loose which is fine for these applications and as far as reviewing there are some items that could be improved on. However, as said it is perfectly serviceable and I will be using it to secure a gate. If you need a light duty latch this is fine. No lock will keep out a professional theif or determined person. The first weak spot with all of this style of locks is the screws, I would always use as long a screw as possible, and have in the past actually used a beveled bolt and nut with larger washers on the back side. A pry bar or large screwdriver will pull this right out of the wood but that is going to be the same for any latch this style unless you really anchor it into your door. The hasp is a single piece of round steel that can easily be clipped with a pair of small bolt cutters which is why I prefer the type that is a doubled over piece of stamped steel, plus it gives more welding surface area to hold it in. This lock has 2 weld spots holding the hasp to the plate and appear fairly weak. Also on the nit picky side of things the holes are not beveled but they don't need to be because of the relatively sloppy hinge stamping which leaves about an eighth of an inch between the two plates so even a larger head screw won't get in the way. If your going to go to the trouble of drilling or attaching a latch like this with quality hardware you should just spend the extra $5 to get a thicker and more refined latch. That said this is fine for what it is and I would not call this junk but it is in my opinion light duty. If appropriate fasteners are used it will slow down the average joe and keep people out who really don't want to work at breaking things.

It's kind of tough to get excited about a product such as a simple hasp, but when I saw the Quality Life 5in Gate Hasp come up as an item to review, I did get excited since I had been procrastinating putting a hasp on a door to a chicken house that only had a latch hook and didn't provide quite as much security as I felt comfortable with.The Quality Life 5in Gate Hasp arrived as described on the product page, and took about 10 minutes and a cordless screwdriver to install. Depending upon your application, the screws provided with the Quality Life 5in Gate Hasp are adequate for a lot of light duty applications. For my outdoor chicken house door application, I opted for some longer 2-½" woodscrews I had on hand from a previous project. While the small latch hook that I have used on the door for a number of years worked the majority of the time, there has been occasion where extreme winds actually have pushed the latch up and let the door open. With the Quality Life 5in Gate Hasp I now have peace of mind that the padlock I have on there won't suddenly open and let the chickens out....or the predators in.The overall quality of the Quality Life 5in Gate Hasp looks to be stainless steel as described, and appears that it should hold up well in our drier climate. The price point seems to be a little higher than other hasps I've seen, but then again my perspective on prices is a bit skewed from inflation and everything else going up. So it could be that now this is a good price for a hasp. But I do know that a hasp like this is a good item to have on hand for those unexpected moments that life brings. A definite must-have I'd recommend for DIYer's, handypeople, tinkerers, hobbyists, etc. Just about anyone has or will have a need for a simple hasp at some point in their life! The Quality Life 5in Gate Hasp is certainly a good choice!Five stars.

Had to drill out holes for larger than normal fastener, this is some VERY tough Stainless Steel, anyone trying to saw through it to break in would give up.

This smaller size hasp is exactly what I needed for my shed. I looked in the "big box" store but couldn't find anything. Easy installation, durable and the price is right!

Do they function - yes. However they are poorly constructed and light duty. 1. The metal was thin. The last ones I bought were much thicker. 2. The hasp was wobbly. There was a lot of play in the hinged part of the hasp. You could shake it back and forth a lot. 3. There were no counter-sinks in the holes. They were just straight holes with no counter-sink for the flat-head screws. 4. They were indeed stainless steel - not magnetic, but why would you have a stainless hasp and not include stainless screws? They should have been stainless as well (see photo of magnet snapping them up). In addition, the screws were only 5/8" long which is not nearly long enough. I had to use my own screws.
